dear friends,

it is with a heavy heart i write this entry. last night, governor huckabee withdrew from the gop presidential race. i am heartbroken, as are many others.

governor huckabee represented true substantive "hope, promise and change" for america. governor huckabee embodied the beliefs of evangelical christians and patriotic americans. governor huckabee articulated our values, our principles and our convictions. governor huckabee gave us a voice and a place in the process. governor huckabee represented us... governor huckabee fought for us.

thank you, governor huckabee. thank you, for giving of yourself and your family, for all of us.

never before, had i been involved in politics. never before, did i care who was running for president. never before did i consider myself a 'grassroots activist' or even dream of blogging. but, governor huckabee, you changed all that. yes, you changed all that, for many many americans.

governor huckabee has awakened and inspired evangelical christians, social conservatives and the average american to get involved in the public square. he has dared us to believe that we can make a difference. and that we, indeed, have a valid place and voice in the process. he has demonstrated that a "little", with God's help, prayer, committment and hard work, can produce "much." he has taught us the power of perseverance, tenacity and a message. governor huckabee has taught christians, to unashamedly and unapologetically STAND FOR OUR CONVICTIONS.

what a tremendous lesson this has been for christians. inadvertantly, as a result of the political power playing and lack of support of "christian leadership", the rank and file christian base have quickly "grown up" and learned to make our own decisions. we have learned to "stand up on our own." and you know what? we like it.

there is no turning back. the true colors of many, have been revealed throughout this political season. many in political and christian leadership as well as in the media have lost a tremendous amount of support, respect and relevancy amongst the evangelical christian base. the ramifications of this, will be clearly evident.

the evangelical christian base has been energized and mobilized by governor huckabee's campaign. despite governor huckabee's exist from the gop race, the political and evangelical landscape has, and will forever be, indelibly changed.

the rank and file christians have found their voice, and their leader. we will march on....

i have no idea what God has in store. i felt certain, God has something planned involving governor huckabee, during this critical time in american history. finally, a godly man that had not only convictions and principles but experience to execute the job. frankly, i am still stunned that governor huckabee is no longer in the race. i, along with many others, who have been fervently praying for governor huckabee, felt certain God would intervene and cut the path to the presidency.

but, it is not so. in thinking and praying, i realize....as with the gospel, as with many in the Bible, GOD GIVES US A CHOICE. that is the beauty of our God. yet, along with that choice comes consequences, both good and bad.

i felt many of governor huckabee's supporters to be somewhat of a remnant standing for biblical principles and values. it was very exciting. however, based on the majority of americans supporting and voting for mccain, as well as obama...to me, it is indicative of where america stands spiritually.

now, in america, there is no longer a right or a wrong. there is no longer an absolute in the Bible. there is no longer a moral standard or code. that way of thinking, is now attacked and considered close minded, judgemental, and unloving. it is now, all about what 'feels good and right to me', 'what's okay for me', 'what I want,' 'what I need', 'what I want to do'. God has been taken out of the equation, the thought process, the schools.... christianity has now become a convenient dilution of God's Word and God's standards to meet the desires and standards of the person. how sad. how very scary.

how we desperately need God. how blessed america has been, as we founded our country on biblical principles and followed leaders who embraced God and His ways. how very scary as we stand back now, and watch america taking a turn away from God, and away from what has made us so great.

friends, this is a scary time, but i continue to rest in the fact that GOD IS IN CONTROL. God may allow some hardships for a season, but He will not allow it go beyond what we are able to bear. we must continue to pray that GOD'S WILL BE DONE and pray that the eyes of americans will be opened. pray that america will realize the abundant blessings and love of God, and their desperate need for God.

well friends, for this time, as in the pslams, i say, 'selah'.... this is a time to pause and reflect on what has happened, and get ready for what lies ahead... as God leads...

we serve a mighty faithful gracious and loving God.....never ever forget that!!!!

even when things don't turn out as we had hoped...GOD IS STILL MIGHTY, GOD IS STILL FAITHFUL, GOD IS STILL GRACIOUS, AND GOD IS STILL LOVING.... GOD IS ON THE THRONE...He knows best...

MIKE HUCKABEE ADDRESSING VALUES VOTERS...

with the texas and ohio primaries upcoming this tuesday. i thought it would be appropriate to give americans another opportunity to hear governor huckabee, as he addresses values voters, and the issues that are important to us.

actually, there was a msnbc values voters debate scheduled for today. an invitation was extended to both john mccain and mike huckabee. unfortunately, only governor huckabee accepted. apparently, john mccain feels he has the nomination secured, and does not feel a need to address values voters. (this is the 2nd values voters debate that mccain has not atttended.) apparently, john mccain is relaxing somewhere out of town today, recovering from the rigors of campaigning, and, no doubt, strategizing with his campaign advisors.

however, for those values voters that still desire to hear the candidate for president, address the issues of the values voter... i thought the below speech by governor huckabee fit that bill perfectly.

friends, we do not need more promises made by politicians. we need the passion and personal convictions of a president that owns his principles, and is willing to live by them.

take aside about 25 minutes, and give it a watch. it will speak to the issues, and to your heart.

Mike Huckabee is the choice of conservatives.

On fiscal conservatism, he believes wholeheartedly in the reduction of cost to the taxpayer, especially entitlements. In Arkansas as governor, he was able to reduce welfare rolls by 50% and he held the line on taxes, leaving them the same as when he took office. He successfully fought to increase deductions and lower taxes such as capital gains. He also signed the Americans for Tax Reform's pledge to not raise taxes.

Huckabee understands that money spent on entitlements is almost three times the amount of spending on the military. Thomas Jefferson said, "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." By working to reduce those who are dependent on entitlements, we strengthen our economy and our nation.

On conservative foreign policy, Huckabee vows to finish the war in Iraq, leaving when democracy has been established. He is fervent about removing our dependency on foreign oil by increasing our production at home for the short term and investing in renewable energy for the long term. He also is committed to securing the borders and ending the cycle of illegal immigration, which has become such a huge problem for the United States today.

Huckabee is the only candidate I completely trust to support our Second Amendment rights, as he has a longstanding track record as a sportsman and conservationist. For hunters and shooters of all sports, and those who believe they have the right to own a firearm, Huckabee is the only choice.

On moral conservatism, he is the only candidate who is firmly and unequivocally pro-life. He also wants marriage defined as a union between a man and a woman, and he successfully implemented a law stating that in Arkansas.

For members of the working class who are tired of having a large portion of their paycheck go to support those who will not work or are here illegally, to sportsmen who are tired of losing their rights, to Christians who are tired of seeing their values and beliefs represented as something to be shunned and to those who truly believe in democracy, there is an action you can take.

on march 4th, the texas primary is huge. it is a must win. we have 2 weeks until then. much of the difficulty has been the issue of inaccurate and skewed information regarding governor huckabee having been spread throughout the media. other candidates, (that have now dropped out or 'suspended' their campaigns) have previously maligned and spewed falsehoods against governor huckabee. unfortunately, these falsehoods have stuck in the minds of americans. WE MUST SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT!! we must help get governor huckabee's true message out!!

governor huckabee's message is so powerful and innovative, even barack obama has chosen to 'steal' several of governor huckabee's platform ideas (infrastructure, preventative healthcare). i suppose, imitations is a form of flattery, right?

the ironic thing regarding governor huckabee and barack obama is that many people and the media are embracing obama as the 'man of hope and change.' obama seems to have become somewhat of a cultural icon representing change. that's fine, and he is apparently an oustanding speaker. but the inevitable question is: "what has he changed? what has he done? what is his track record and experience for implementing all his philosophies and idealogy??" the problem is: nobody is asking or answering those questions. now, that is scary. not to mention his 'agenda for change', which leads america away from moral standards and values. indeed, it is 'change', but NOT change for the better.

on the other hand, governor huckabee HAS VIABLE EXPERIENCE, he HAS A RECORD OF IMPLEMENTING CHANGE. HE HAS LED A GOVERNMENT IN AN EXECUTIVE CAPACITY , IN AN 85% DEMOCRATIC STATE, AND HAS BEEN HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL AND POPULAR. so popular, that he got re-elected twice!

this, my friends, is CHANGE...this my friends, is HOPE. not just words or platitudes in a inspiring speech, but SOLID and SUBSTANTIVE.

unfortunately, many many americans are unaware of these facts. they hear and read what the media and leadership choose to disseminate. by now, we are all painfully and frustratingly aware of the media's power and bias.

friends, it is OUR JOB to set the record straight and get the word out. we are the hands and feet of governor huckabee's campaign. we are the people that never ever cared a whit about politics. but have now, inadvertantly become grassroots activists. and do or die, NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE ACTION.

americans STILL DO HAVE A CHOICE IN THIS ELECTION. we need to remind them of that, and share governor huckabee's message and vision for america.

VALUES VOTERS ARE COMMITTED BECAUSE OF OUR FAITH, OUR VALUES AND OUR BELIEFS....NOT because someone said so, or because it was politically correct or because it was 'hip or the flavor of the month'. VALUES VOTERS ARE DEEPLY COMMITTED. AND VALUES VOTERS ARE NOT EASILY INTIMIDATED OR SUBDUED.

I am endorsing Gov. Mike Huckabee for President of the United States today. My decision comes in the wake of my statement on Super Tuesday that I could not vote for Sen. John McCain, even if he goes on to win the Republican nomination. His record on the institution of the family and other conservative issues makes his candidacy a matter of conscience and concern for me.

That left two pro-family candidates whom I could support, but I was reluctant to choose between them. However, the decision by Gov. ALERT: McCain & Romney are NOT Friends of the Family...

with the election just 2 days away, along with equipping christians with a voter's guide (in the previous post) i also feel a need to clarify and show the contrast and differences of the other 2 candidates running for the gop nomination.

both john mccain and mitt romney are not 'family friendly'.

throughout mccain's political career, he has had more of a leaning towards the liberal. he does NOT support the marriage ammendment, but DOES SUPPORT embryonic stem cell research. additionally, he has issues regarding supporting president bush's tax cuts as well as, supporting the controversial immigration bill. the below clip, was produced by roegone.org.

in the clip below, mitt romney was asked about abortion and roe v. wade. the first question asked was if "abortion was murder", the 2nd question was regarding "overturning roe v. wade".

in his answers, romney was busy talking around and around, up and down... but in the end, "what did he really say?" he seemed to evasively talk in circles. at the end of the clip, a follow up question was asked, but romney quickly disregarded it, and said, "he wasn't going to go into all that.." watch the whole thing below, it runs about 3 minutes.

after watching that clip, my question to mitt romney is, "so are you against abortion and believe in the sactity of human life, or not?" it is a moral issue. if you allow each state to make up their own laws, that does NOT protect the sanctity of human life..."only in few states.." what is that??!!

i would venture to say, as americans further research mitt romney, and his positions, from the santity of human life to taxes to healthcare, they will ask themselves the same question, "what was that?" mitt romney lacks consistency and credibility.

beyond the sanctity of human life, mr. romney has recently been portraying himself to be the private sector, "mr. fix-it for washington." this also requires some research and fact checking.

below is an article from the new york times. in the article, romney's business; bain capital, is explained in greater detail. also, romney's business partner at bain capital explained mitt romney as follows:

“Mitt ran a private equity firm, not a cement company,” said Eric A. Kriss, a former Bain Capital partner. “He was not a businessman in the sense of running a company,” Mr. Kriss said, adding, “He was a great presenter, a great spokesman and a great salesman.”

Citing his business experience, he urges voters to reject “lifetime politicians” who “have never run a corner store, let alone the largest enterprise in the world.”

Mr. Romney, though, never ran a corner store or a traditional business. Instead, he excelled as a deal maker, a buyer and seller of companies, a master at the art of persuasion that he demonstrated in the talks that led to the forming of Bain Capital.

He made his money mainly through leveraged buyouts — essentially, mortgaging companies to take them over in the hope of reselling them at big profits in just a few years. It is a bare-knuckle form of investing that is in the spotlight because of the exploding profits of buyout giants like Bain, Blackstone and the Carlyle Group. In Washington, Congress is considering ending a legal quirk that lets fund managers escape much of the income tax on their earnings.

“The amounts of money are so vast that it is truly a matter of time before the taxation of private equity is front and center of the public agenda,” said James E. Post, a Boston University professor who teaches business-government relations. “Increasingly, this world of private equity looks like a world of robber barons, and Romney comes out of that world.

“The private equity business is a pretty good place to make a lot of money,” Mr. Weld added. “The market rewards people who show they can see value in a company quickly, adjust a few toggle switches and sell it again four or five years later. It is capitalism’s way of picking the fleas off the dog.”

Others complain that private equity fund managers like Mr. Romney pay only capital gains taxes instead of income taxes on their cuts of investors’ profits. At present tax rates, that means that they pay 15 percent instead of 35 percent on most of their earnings.

“When you look at the amount of money these guys are making,” said Victor Fleischer, a legal scholar who has consulted with the Senate Finance Committee about changing the law, “the effective tax rate is just sort of shocking to the conscience.”

essentially, folks...mitt romney is not a man who ran a business, managed it well, and became a billionaire. HE WAS A SALESMAN. HE MADE BIG MONEY BY LEVERAGE BUYOUTS. he took companies, tooled with them, (fancy phrase for laid off employees) and then resold them for a profit.

in another article from the boston globe, mitt romney was described by a former colleague who wished to remain anonymous, as 'clinical' in his approach to buying and selling businesses. often, at the cost of employees' jobs. it is a hardcore business, and it was all about the money. go here to read more about "as bain slashed jobs, romney stayed to side."

the more you learn about mitt romney, the LESS YOU TRUST HIM.

the bottom line is: VOTERS, YOU NEED TO DO YOUR RESEARCH. DO NOT DEPEND ON OR ALLOW THE MEDIA TO GUIDE YOU IN THIS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

the above are just a few examples of issues for both mccain and romney. granted, no one candidate is perfect. however, prior to voting on tuesday, it is essential that voters fully research all the candidates. america needs a president that stands on a record of consistency. a man americans can trust. a man that can represent the best interests of the american people.

that being said, mike huckabee stands head and shoulders above the rest. governor huckabee WILL REPRESENT THE SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE and the american family trying to make ends meet, americans that still believe in the american dream...not just the corporate elite and their investors. WE CAN DEPEND ON MIKE HUCKABEE TO LEAD WITH CHARACTER AND INTEGRITY.

now, friends, with only 2 days away....GET THE VOTE OUT FOR MIKE!!!

2. Huckabee or Romney?
A few of our readers have asked, should they switch to Romney to help defeat McCain?

I would say no.

First, Huckabee is going to win three or more states on Tuesday. Second, in California, delegates are by Congressional District. In many Congressional districts, Huckabee could win if our readers and their friends get out and vote. This means Huckabee would pick up these delegates.

This election has been truly filled with ups and downs. Clinton and Giuliani were supposed to be the big, easy winners. McCain was supposed to be out.

Don't let the media or biased talk shows discourage you from voting for the best candidate. Let's get our friends and family out to vote for Huckabee.

I'm very impressed with Huckabee's ability to communicate conservative values and beliefs. His humor disarms the liberals. His ability to articulate his conservative economic, social and national defense beliefs is superior to the other candidate.

Mike Huckabee will also be able to intelligently debate the liberal Democratic candidates.
He is credible. He has a vision. And he can dramatically articulate the vision.

Mike Huckabee has been unfairly attacked for his faith by the media. Sadly, he has also been falsely accused of "liberal" statements. This is not true.

I have carefully reviewed the critics, the pundits and the accusations. On economic issues, I have found Mike Huckabee to be as free market and pro-growth as any of the other candidates, if not more so.

As governor, he raised some taxes and lowered some taxes. But unlike Romney, he left with a surplus (and actually a smaller tax increase).

The attacks on Governor Huckabee have been largely about his faith. But the truth is, he speaks to the average voter—an essential quality needed to win in 2008. His policies are solidly conservative—no one can point out specific issues—only misquoted phrases.

In some ways I like many of the other candidates—even if I don't like some of their positions, stands and character qualities.

I'd really like to stitch together a little of Obama, a little of Romney and a little of Paul—but I can't. (Truth be told, my first choice dropped out of the race.)

mike huckabee's answer clearly demonstrates that he truly understands and believes in what reagan espoused. mike huckabee passionately believes in america, it's people and the american dream.

Mitt or Huck: Who's more Conservative?

There is a persistent myth that Mike Huckabee is a liberal and Mitt Romney is a conservative. That, my discerning friends, is a lie of convenience assembled by establishment people who own Romney, don't own Huckabee, and who have a lot of money they fear is at stake. Please keep in mind that Mitt Romney has tens of millions of dollars on hand and outspent Huckabee 15 to 1 in Iowa. Romney is supported by the multi-billion dollar business entity known as the Mormon Church. And pointedly, Huckabee has only his principles and a 10-year history as governor to run on; his professional life was made building only spiritual capital.

But let's reduce the charge to its root. Huckabee typically gets slammed as a liberal on taxes, pardons and illegal immigration. Do any of the charges stand up, or are they just being shouted through multi-million-dollar megaphones? I can only fit one topic per column, so let's hit the pocketbook.

The total tax burden in Arkansas went from 30.3 percent in 1996 when Huckabee took office all the way up to (are you ready?) 30.5 percent in 2006 right before he left. That's right, folks. Under the "big government" guy, the overall tax burden rose by two-tenths of a percent in 10 years. If you meet any Republican politician who can hold a Democratic state legislature to raising the tax burden by only two-tenths in 10 years, make him president, would you?

Has anyone recognized if any Republican is to be president, he'd probably have to restrain a Democratic legislature? And experience doing that is a good thing? Forgive me, but two-tenths in 10 years isn't a point of complaint. The guy should get a medal.

So how did Willard fare in restraining taxes? Romney, who got himself elected running to the left of Ted Kennedy, did what big-government liberals only hope to do. By the same measure of overall tax burden, and from the same source for information, Romney oversaw an increase from 30.4 percent to a whopping 34.4 percent total tax burden on the People's Republic of Massachusetts. He got over that pesky one-third psychological hurdle! Four percent in four years (all while Bush was president), versus two-tenths in 10 years during Clinton and Bush presidencies.

Romney dishes tax burden at a rate 50 times Huckabee.

If you've been fed that "Romney is an economic guy" thing by the TV, don't go for it. Somebody is paying the networks good money to say that. You are supposed to believe Mitt is "conservative" and Mike is a "liberal" on taxes. You promise to be obedient, don't you? Please ignore the nice man who wants to eliminate the IRS. He is a hick from the sticks who's really a liberal! Avert your eyes. Nod if you understand. The big "Christians" we purchased signal only establishment candidates: Romney, Giuliani or McCain! Such variety! Don't you know what's good for you?

On abortion, the only candidate in the race to support a human life amendment to the Constitution is Huckabee. The right to life group Massachusetts Citizens for Life said Romney was a pro-abort as of March 2005. Romney decided he was pro-life in July 2005. In December 2006, Romney dumped 25 grand on the Massachusetts Citizens for Life, which then re-evaluated him as pro-life. But Willard is equal opportunity – he handed National Review's non-profit 10 grand; National Review then endorsed him.

Come to think of it, maybe Romney is some sort of "economic guy."

Human Events, in its report on Republicans in Name Only, said of Willard, "Romney was probably the most pro-abortion and pro-gay rights Republican official in the nation for the last decade." Contrast that with "liberal" Huckabee, who is the only candidate in the race to support a constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriage. In 2004, when Arkansas approved the constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage (that Huckabee had pushed for) Huckabee said the amendment was necessary to stop activists looking to rewrite the social code. But the TV media and Rush Limbaugh say Huckabee is a "liberal."

Yeah, right. OK.

Reading my columns, you know what I mean when I say "conservative." But the TV media and Limbaugh are using the words "conservative" and "liberal" in a different way.

Conservative: He who supports the moneyed or adulterous Republican establishment fraternity headed by the Bushes and secular, amoral billionaires. Can also mean someone whom you regard as outstandingly pagan who has nevertheless given you huge sums of money.

Liberal: He who isn't part of the secular, moneyed, amoral billionaires. Also, he who has no money but campaigns on traditional morality. Also, anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable because that person is loyal to his wife and/or who preaches against adultery.

And by the way, you knew that Romney's Bain Capital owns Clear Channel, right? And that Clear Channel broadcasts Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity? Any appearance of a conflict of interest in turning a Massachusetts liberal into the Reagan-like robot is purely coincidental; opinions of the talent do not necessarily reflect those of ... the owners.

friends, it is important, to dig beyond the candidate's rhetoric. simply because mitt romney can convincingly utter, "i stand on my record. check my record." DOES NOT mean he has a record that is stellar and bullet-proof. on the contrary, by giving that response so confidently, many people take him at his word, and do not bother to check the record themselves. and that, my friends, is what mitt romney is counting on.

friends, there is a significant difference between WHAT IS, and what is reported. americans must do their homework, and look beyond the rhetoric and spin. they must look beyond talk radio, endorsements and media pundits.

americans, WE MUST RESEARCH AND DECIDE FOR OURSELVES. do not depend on what you hear. you must depend on what you know. you must own your decision for the 2008 presidential election. after all, there are plenty of people willing to buy your vote...but in the end....IT IS YOU, who has to live with it.

i am writing today, in hopes of stirring up america's values voters. tomorrow, the florida primary will take place. the evangelical community is the largest minority voting block in the united states. it is high time values voters refocus on the core issues, and cast their support and votes accordingly.

frankly, folks...it is NOT about the economy or foreign policy or taxes. it is much more fundamental than that. it is about morality and the core values of america. if america cannot get the basic fundamental issue of "the intrinsic value of every human life"...and the acknowledgement of God gifting us our glorious freedoms, it will flail. if america loses it's essential moral code, then all other areas of america: it's economy, foreign policy etc..will also reflect this, and will flounder and decline.

without God's blessing on our nation.....america will fall.

as christians, WE MUST RISE UP. WE MUST VOTE OUR VALUES. WE MUST DO OUR PART AND STAND IN THE GAP.

america needs a leader that acknowledges his dependence upon God for wisdom and direction. despite how competent a president might be, he still needs God. what president can shoulder decisions that effect millions of lives without a keen understanding and dependence upon God?

The Issue of McCain's Age....& Huckabee Singing a New Song...

last week chuck norris made a comment about john mccain's age. frankly, i thought he made a valid point. despite the media's attempt to make it a divisive issue. chuck norris and john mccain are good friends. the comment was not made to be disparaging, but rather just to share an observation.

the presidency of the united states is a highly stressful grueling job. with mccain at 72 years old, this should be an issue, and at the very least, evaluated.

Among the painful signs of our time are the shocked reactions to Chuck Norris’s raising the question of whether Senator John McCain is too old to be president.

Have we reached the point where we have so many politically correct taboos that we can’t even talk sense?

Does a man in his seventies have less energy for either physical or mental tasks than someone younger? Those of us who are in our seventies know darn well that we can’t do everything we used to do, as well as we used to do it.

It is not just in physical tasks that age takes its toll. Even when our minds remain sharp, our energy levels are seldom the same, and that affects how long we can concentrate on a given day without taking a rest.

But a president of the United States has to be ready to take on any crisis that arises anywhere in the world, at any hour of the day or night.

And if he has to deal with it around the clock, then he just stays awake around the clock to deal with it.

It can be a killing job. You need only look at pictures of Abraham Lincoln when he took office and compare them with the pictures of him just a few years later, when he looked like he had aged at least ten years during the Civil War.

Look at pictures of Franklin D. Roosevelt taken in 1940 and compare them with pictures of him taken in 1945, after World War II had taken its toll.

Today we know that FDR’s doctor had put him on a restricted schedule -- and that still was not enough to keep him from dying in office, just a few months after he began his final term as president.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was younger when he died than John McCain is right now. Moreover, FDR had not been abused for years as a prisoner of war. When we are talking about a president of the United States, we are not talking about the fate of one individual, but the fate of a nation and of generations yet unborn.

This is no time to get squeamish or politically correct, when talking about whoever is to carry the load of the free world on his shoulders in the White House.

Quite aside from age, there is all too much evidence already that John McCain is not the kind of man who has given in-depth thought to many of the serious issues on which he shoots from the hip, which some people equate with “straight talk.”

The media have dubbed him a “maverick,” which is another way of spinning the fact that he is headstrong and unreliable.

Senator McCain’s teaming up with Senator Ted Kennedy on immigration, and with equally left-wing Senator Russ Feingold to violate the First Amendment in the name of “campaign-finance reform,” are classic examples of a loose cannon.

Senator McCain is not a bad man. He has some admirable qualities. But there are plenty of good people who would be dangerous in a job for which they are not suited.

Back in the 18th century, Edmund Burke said that some people “may do the worst of things without being the worst of men.” The White House is not the place for that.

you know....what is amazing to me, is how the gop and the media are so fickle. one minute guliani's their man, then the polls shift. and suddenly, romney's their man. the polls shift again, and after a couple caucuses and primaries, and suddenly mccain is their man.

the gop and the media are so desperate to get behind someone that they can embrace (or in other words, "control") , that they are glossing over and idealizing the candidates. in this case, mccain..(albeit hesitantly) but also romney. (who knows, he may actually win a primary, and then suddenly they'll drop mccain and "romney will be their man." )

with thompson out of the race, the gop is trying to find ways to justify their 'current candidate of the month.'

all the while, the gop are being sure to eliminate and purposefully exclude huckabee from the conversation and from contention. huckabee's biggest opposition is coming from the staunch old-school republicans/rush limbaugh/talk radio/fox etc... that is why, in my opinion, the republican party is lagging, diminishing...losing.

if the republican party wants to preserve itself, it better start singing a new tune. because, frankly, the song obama's singing in the democratic party..is definitely catching on.

mccain's age is an issue. but beyond that, mccain's stand on issues in the past, and his stance on social issues are not in line with christian values voters. so why is mccain leading in the polls? the gop is desperate. if romney wins "anything," you can guarantee they will jump mccain's ship and be sailing with romney.

christians, let us also, not be tossed to and fro by every wind or philosophy......let's commit to the candidate that embodies our beliefs and has the experience and capacity to lead this country up.

let's get behind mike huckabee, and give america a chance to start singing a new song!!

Romney: "Not a Washington Insider,"...But a "CORPORATE INSIDER"

gee, which is worse? take your pick. do we want a president that's a 'washington insider' and has played the political game for years, and is owned by the party? or do we want a president that has "worldwide personal financial ties and investments to corporate america and lobbyists," that in turn, manipulate the politics of america?

frankly, with the way the economy is going, i don't think it very wise for mitt romney to be touting his 'washington outsider, mr. fix-it from corporate america' line. talk about alienating the average american. do americans really want a billionaire to stand up there and tell us, "he knows what's going on in america, and he's going to fix it?"

in the last florida debate, mr. romney bragged that by using his own fortune to finance his campaign, he wouldn't be beholding to anybody. but in the same breath, he says he's raised more money than any other candidate. isn't that a contradiction?

on the contrary, by being so 'well connected' amongst the corporate elite, it would seem that mr. romney is more beholding to corporate america , simply as a result of his personal business dealings.

a recent article released by christian newswire, titled, "mitt romney-- be afraid, very afraid," has some very interesting information about romney and his personal and financial ties to corporate america.

On December 12th, 2007, the very same day that Romney indicated his support of the Federal ENDA legislation, news of his investment company's buyout of Clear Channel Communications surfaced. Clear Channel owns Rush Limbaugh's and Sean Hannity's contracts, and is the largest conservative radio conglomerate in the country. It may be no small coincidence that conservative talk show hosts lambasted Christian Mike Huckabee as a liberal just mere hours before he took the Iowa Caucus.

Romney is no media novice. For years he has supported the Mormon media blitz of television and radio spots that have slowly brainwashed so many of us into believing that Mormons are Christians too. Today in the national political debate, to ask questions about the Mormon "jesus" is labeled religious bigotry- hate speech that must be silenced.

Romney is said to be worth at least a quarter of a billion dollars, and has given every indication that he intends to buy the presidency, sparing no expense. If voted into office, it would be the first time ever in American history that a president would control so much wealth, as well as so much of the media.

Christians in America need to begin asking questions.

Is it really the right thing for America to make a man as powerful and rich as Romney president?

Is America in the position to take such a risk at such a crucial moment in our history?

Are we really ready to turn our nation over to an untested man that has served only one term as governor of liberal Massachusetts?

Can Romney really be trusted when he says he is opposed to abortion, does not support gay marriage or civil unions, and is ready to solve our illegal immigration crisis, even as he's waffled on all these issues?

Are we really so naïve to think that a man of such vast wealth did not build his portfolio standing on the back of the working man?

Is it really wise to vote for a man when in our gut we know for certain that something just isn't right about him?

aside from the issues of mitt romney's ongoing flip-flopping on issues, and his use of semantics when caught in his own web of distortions...mitt romney represents corporate america. those in places of power, or those aspiring to be in places of power, can clearly see the benefits of a romney presidency. where there is money, there is power. where there is money and power...there is corruption. whether it be in the halls of the senate in washington d.c., or behind closed doors in the conference rooms off k street, it's all the same power game. and americans are sick of it.

it's time, christians....to take a stand. this past week, a local florida pastor had a fantastic perspective and exhortation to christians and the church:

christians, it is time...... it is time to say, "NO!" to washington insiders AND corporate insiders...it is time to take our country back to the basics upon which it was founded. it is time for our president be a man of the people and for the people. it is time, that our president be a man that realizes his need for God, and His need for wisdom and guidance from God, in leading our nation.

I am writing as Bill May. I am not getting involved in the presidential election because of my role in the non-partisan, issue-related organization Catholics for the Common Good.

But I can’t remain silent about the unanswered distortions about Mike Huckabee over Fred Thompson in the presidential race found in California Catholic Daily’s Jan. 11 posting, “Keeping the coalition together is the key to success.” It was an article covering the California Pro-Life Council's endorsement of Thompson for president. It was totally one-sided and misleading to Catholic voters. CCD is a great publication and provides a valuable service to Catholics. I can understand how things like this can slip through trying to meet tight deadlines.

I don’t want to get into a fight with the California Pro-Life Council and National Right to Life, organizations for which I have a great deal of respect. But I think their endorsements of Fred Thompson reflect bad judgment and their attacks on Huckabee are indefensible and based on false assumptions.

First, Fred Thompson wants to let the states decide on abortion and does not support the human life amendment. There are many parallels between slavery and abortion, and we can see how well leaving the slavery issue to the states turned out. How can he be the pro-life candidate?

This question from the California Catholic Daily reporter to the Pro-Life Council’s Brian Johnston was based on a false and biased premise: "What about a new coalition on the Republican side coming together around a pro-life liberal like Mike Huckabee?" Liberal? Huckabee is not the liberal the Republican establishment says he is. This false premise is being repeated over and over.

Moreover, the response to the question is equally misleading: “Highly, highly unlikely,” Johnston responded. “For one thing, he’s a preacher: he’ll be killed by the media -- he’ll be more of a target than Pat Robertson." There is a huge difference between Robertson and Huckabee. Robertson is a lifelong professional minister and Christian political leader – that is it. Huckabee is a secular political and civic leader and a former Lt. Governor and Governor (almost 11 years), with a distinguished record of secular leadership.

While governor, Time Magazine ranked him as one of the top 5 in the country. His Democratic and Republican peers elected him chairman of the National Governors’ Association. In addition, Huckabee was chairman of the Education Commission of the States, president of the Council of State Governments, chairman of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (37 states), and chairman of the Southern Governors Association. Would any of these things have happened if he were the religious nut the Republican establishment is making him out to be?

Huckabee is the only candidate who has been an advocate for pro-life issues. He got five bills through the Democratic legislature in Arkansas: partial birth abortion, parental notification, women's right to know, fetal pain and liberal hospital drop-off provisions for newborns.

It really annoys me to hear people call Huckabee liberal because he cares for the human person and has a sense of social responsibility. People mindlessly and irresponsibly throw out the right-wing code of “tax and spend” for people who are compassionate and practical. As governor, Huckabee cut taxes almost 100 times. He eliminated the capital gains tax on home sales, reduced them for individuals and businesses, eliminated taxes for those below the poverty line and indexed tax rates to avoid tax creep with inflation. He also was able to get enough people off welfare that the budget was reduced by 50%.

I think Brian is dead wrong re the Republican coalition. The folks in the boardroom are not going to like Huckabee because he is a Christian and a man of the people. I think Huckabee has an opportunity to reform and broaden the Republican Party. He could put the Reagan Democratic coalition back together and attract a lot of Catholic crossover votes. I don't think Thompson has any chance. He has been so weak. He hasn't demonstrated any passion for the office. I think Huckabee is the most electable of the field.

I think Huckabee is the "Catholic" candidate for 2008. --

as you all know, i'm not a seasoned savvy politico, nor do i aspire to be. on the contrary, i only became involved in politics, upon learning of governor huckabee. he has motivated and inspired, not only me, but many many other people like myself to get involved in the political process.

i hear pundits and politicos throwing out comments like, "populist,".... "abandoning the traditional republican platform."

you know what friends? i don't care. i don't care if huckabee doesn't fall neatly into the category of "a true establishment republican." in fact, that is probably why many americans and evangelicals are embracing him!! as far as being a "goold 'ol boy republican," it is obvious, americans and christians across the country, no longer want it, will no longer tolerate it... and more importantly, this way of thinking can no longer win elections.

"true republican conservatives" sit back dinging huckabee on minutia and try to dissect his every word, in hopes of trying to trip him up and discredit his 'true conservative' credibility. these 'establishment republicans' are fighting hard to maintain their age old agenda, this even at the risk of losing the presidential election. they are clearly out of touch with americans. nowhere was that more clearly seen, than this past week, in iowa. despite the exorbitant money spent by an 'establishment backed republican' and all the endorsements by the 'good 'ol boys and wallstreet', huckabee resoundingly won the caucus.

huckabee won because rank and file christians and concerned americans are taking government and this presidential election back. we don't care about the labels, titles, endorsements or connections. like governor huckabee has often stated, "americans are looking for somebody to take america up."

that is why, even many republicans are voting democrat this election. many are voting for obama because of his message of hope. it is clear, that there is enormous dissatisfaction with the republican party. and how are the 'establishment republicans' responding?? by trying to continue to promote their age old agenda, without having the foresight to see a need for change and growth.

sadly, the 'establishment republicans' are truly missing the boat. fortunately, rank and file christians, and independent thinking americans, see and embrace governor huckabee's vision.
governor huckabee is a man that embodies the american dream. governor huckabee is a man that can lead with experience and communicate his vision with clarity and passion. and the rank and file christians are responding with equal clarity and passion.

it's NOT about what's liberal or conservative. it's about what doing what's right and needful in a wise and prudent manner. it's about trusting a man of integrity and honesty to lead us there.

for example, many christians homeschool their children. back even 10-15 years ago, homeschooling would have been considered outlandishly liberal!!! yet, today, thousands of "conservative christians" homeschool their children. are they considered liberal? no, they have simply taken initiative and done what was needful and best for their children. today, these homeschoolers are embraced and praised. yet, a few years back, they would have been outcast and labeled liberal, and too 'anti-establishment'. indeed, they were pioneers and ahead of their time. these families helped to encourage growth and alternative thinking and solutions in education. today, we all enjoy the fruits of their labor.

so it is, with governor huckabee. governor huckabee has the vision to see what is needful. who cares if dealing with the environment is considered 'liberal or populist'. IT IS NEEDFUL! by being so narrow-minded and only addressing issues that have been 'traditionally conservative republican' , republicans find themselves outdated and left behind.

there is now a new generation of republicans. a new generation of evangelicals. politics is no longer about "what your party believes", but more what "your candidate believes and embodies". it is no longer about "following the party", it is about the candidate, himself; his vision, his character, his ability to communicate and inspire the american people. it's about "personally researching and being independent thinkers." this is a new era of voter. it's high time republicans wake up and realize, christians and americans now think for themselves, research for themselves, and will vote for themselves. american voters have become much more savvy.

the republican party better wake up and take notice, or before they know it, the republican party will become quickly irrelevant and obsolete. there will be no growth in the party. the new generation voter, will not tolerate the stagnation and will bypass it altogether.

so despite what governor huckabee is labeled by the media, he is, in fact, an agent of change. not only for america but for the republican party. obviously, the republican party is resistant to this new change. they have had their own vested interests and agendas in place for years. however, if the republican party doesn't wake up and are not willing to change, they will lose support. they will lose power. they will have won the battle..and miserably lost the war.

friends....it is, indeed, the year of the rank and file christian...the rank and file american. this is the year, americans think and act for themselves. it is clear, america has problems. america needs a leader that will guide us to solutions.

it is up to us, to step up, and get involved in the process. it is up to us, to select a leader that understands the issues, and has the character to see it through. if we don't, we will be swept away with the tide, and of the agenda of the elites in the party. after all, when it is all said and done, if we don't get involved and at least try to impact the process and the party, who do we really have to blame?

let's go, christians...let's go americans...it's time to take the republican party and america back ....and upward!!!

Politics & the Media: SPINNING out of control...

dear friends,

where to start? well, i've gotta start off by saying, "I HATE POLITICS!!!"

now that i've got that off my chest....if you have read my previous blog posts, you know that up to now (and mike huckabee) i have never been interested or involved in anything remotely political. it was only after learning of governor huckabee, that i felt compelled and convicted to get involved. after 4 months of blogging for governor huckabee, and watching the goings-ons of all the candidates, campaigns, christian leaders, and the media. i find myself thoroughly and constantly disgusted, incensed, infuriated and frustrated. this is the world of politics?! yuck! no thank you!!!

to watch "politics-in-action" it is no wonder that the majority of americans (and especially evangelical christians) disdain and avoid politics altogether. IT IS DISGUSTING!!! and i think i'm putting it rather mildly!

recently, with governor huckabee's rise in the polls, things are definitely heating up. it is like a crazy political rollercoaster ride of ups, downs, twists and turns. the opposing campaigns and the media are in attack mode. (and i'm sure it'll get worse, before it gets any better...) they are jockeying for position, pushing and shoving their way into the limelight and to the top of the heap. and it's not pretty.

as i watch, i can't believe my eyes, or my ears. i watch and listen as candidates, their campaigns and the media LIE, TWIST, EMBELLISH, MALIGN, and MISREPRESENT..and all this under the harmless word of, "spin??"

i watch as men like fred thompson, mitt romney and groups like the club for growth and the liberal media continue to attack governor huckabee. they BLATANTLY LIE , BIASELY TWIST THE FACTS, and TAKE THINGS TOTALLY OUT OF CONTEXT in an effort to intentionally mislead the public.

it's NOT about reporting the news in a 'fair and balanced manner.' and it's NOT about "reporting the facts." the media are notoriously biased and liberal. this is a well known fact. but more recently, they have become unabashedly more blatant.

i must say, i've heard so much about the 'religion thing' the past few weeks, and not much of it has been very positive. but yesterday, i heard a great answer by governor huckabee on the subject. a reporter was asking if people of various religions (other than christianity) could or would be a good president or should it even be an issue? governor huckabee responded, (paraphrased), "it doesn't matter what religion they say the are. the issue is, once they state what religion they are affiliated with, are their lives are consistent with that faith's beliefs and tenets?" i agree with governor huckabee... basically, we're looking for consistency and commitment to their faith. let's see it!!! whatever it is!!

friends, in this presidential primary, what do you see? these candidates that are aggressively vying for the spotlight....are these men that talk of "faith in america", and "conservative values"... walking the talk? how are they conducting themselves and their campaigns?

ironically, the candidates that are trying to align themselves with evangelical christians, the faith and values voters groups, and the social conservatives....these candidates are fred thompson and mitt romney. both these men profess to have a faith in Jesus Christ. yet, these two men have been the most aggressive in the negative ads and nasty campaigning thus far. isn't this a contradiction??

they are pandering to the evangelical christian and social conservative, but they are conducting themselves more negatively than non-christians like guliani and mccain.

sadly, within this world of politics and spin, i don't see much honesty, character and integrity. instead, i see politics running in amuck..in "full force". whether this type of behavior is the 'norm' or not for this presidential race, it does not make it not make it any more palatable. frankly, it's ugly. it's distasteful. it's offensive. and many americans and christians alike, are sick and tired of it.

instead, i believe america is looking and longing for something different. personally, as a christian voter, i am looking for a man of character, integrity, and competency. i'm not looking for perfection. it does not exist. i'm not looking to agree with the candidate 100% on all the issues and all his opinions. rather, I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEBODY WITH INTEGRITY, THAT I CAN TRUST. somebody who's life reflects his beliefs. i'm looking for somebody that conducts himself in a manner, that i feel exemplifies character, honesty and integrity. a man that i can trust to represent and make decisions for me, my family and america with honor.

for me, it really boils down to the "man, himself." DO I TRUST HIM? DO I BELIEVE IN HIM?

what i greatly appreciate about governor huckabee is....HE IS, WHAT HE IS. he is honest and sincere. he addresses questions forthrightly. if he makes a mistake, he says so. he is a refreshing breath of fresh air, in the toxic world of politics. he is not trying to "repackage himself" or "spin himself", to suit the voters. he is what he is, and what he has been. he hasn't changed radically. he is consistent. now, i didn't' say he was perfect. but significantly more consistent than any of the other candidates.

interestingly enough, as the media and opposing campaigns pick-pick-pick away at issues in governor huckabee's past...why aren't the media pick-pick-picking away at any of the other candidates with significantly more inconsistent and torrid pasts? it seems almost a coincidence, that the two opposing candidates that have been the most aggressive in negative attacks, have also enjoyed a somewhat 'free pass' from the media on their own issues of inconsistency and controversy? this is a bit puzzling and disconcerting.

over the years, organizations like focus on the family and afa, have taught and encouraged christians to stand up for their beliefs and principles. they have taught us to be bold, and to have a voice in the public square on issues that effect our faith and families. the presidential election is no different. to the degree that evangelical christians comprise a good percent of america, we also have the power to object to negative campaigning and biased media coverage. we have a voice, and we have the economic muscle. friends, it's time to use it!!!

we do not have to sit back and tolerate politics and the media's spin. we can communicate our displeasure; turn off the t.v., stop buying the paper or magazine, and not vote for that candidate. friends, we do have the power to make a difference. let's do it!!!

A DOUBLE STANDARD: "Where is the tolerance FOR CHRISTIANS??"

recently, i read an interesting article by matt lewis at townhall.com's blog regarding the DOUBLE STANDARD that is being applied to religion in politics. here are a few excerpts:

"... I'm noticing a disturbing trend emerging in politics. While Mitt Romney's Mormonism is politically unassailable, Mike Huckabee is beginning to be portrayed as a "kook" -- for referencing his faith.

Specifically, some pundits disapprove of Huckabee's inference to a student that his surge in the polls was due to prayer.

In any event, let's not have a double-standard. If criticizing Romney's religion is off-the-table, then Huckabee's faith should also be off-the-table."

this article caused me to think more about the issues of "double standards" in regards to religion...specifically, christianity and in this case, governor mike huckabee.

this past week, mitt romney made a highly publicized and touted speech, "faith in america". romney's speech was a political attempt to shift focus and decry bigotry towards his mormon faith. romney exhorted americans to tolerance, liberty and understanding. many in the media were quick to agree, with accolades and warm 'bravos' and "amens".

it seemed most people (especially the media) agreed. romney had a point, a good point. basically, don't bother or badger romney about his mormon faith. it is OFF LIMITS. it would be deemed bigotry. it is unseemly (very "un-american"), unfair and intolerant. end of story.

that being said...now fast forward to mike huckabee's campaign. on a daily basis, governor huckabee is CONSTANTLY, INCESSANTLY, REPEATEDLY and EXCESSIVELY being asked specific detailed questions about his faith, his theology, his personal views on specific biblical precepts. for instance, "if being a christian and a pastor would effect his ability to be president?" "would his christian beliefs effect or influence how he governs?"does he think God has divine providence for Him to be president?" "does he think so-and-so will go to heaven?", "does he believe the bible? every word of it?"...it goes on and on and on and on....

not only do the media feel it is permissible, but they seem to act as if they have the "right" to ask these questions. they almost appear to be on a mission. seemingly, like a mandate to "find out these things" on behalf of the american people. journalistic responsibility and excellence!

we all know, they ask these questions, not because they "truly want to know or to understand" the issues. it is simply an attempt to stir up controversy, acquire ammunition and fodder for the next few news stories. or alternatively, they do so in an effort to strengthen the position on behalf of an opposing candidate they favor.

now...if, for some reason, governor huckabee refused to answer the "christian questions"...if he were to scoff at them, or attempt to avoid them altogether... the media will immediately call, "foul!!" and accuse governor huckabee of being evasive and not forthright...somehow untrustworthy.."un-christian".

indeed, friends..clearly, THIS IS A DOUBLE STANDARD.

and this double standard manifests itself in the everyday lives of the christian. this is not new news. friends, what governor huckabee is currently going through with the media, is what christians all over the world experience. unfortunately, governor huckabee has to endure it primetime, on national television.

why is it re: issues like mormonism, homosexuality, muslims and abortion, christians are constantly being admonished to be tolerant.

yet, when the topic shifts to anything regarding christianity or Jesus Christ, the rules change radically. if a christian asserts their rights, immediately they are attacked, hounded and condemned by the media. immediately there is an outcry of 'separation of church and state!', 'fundamentalist christians!', 'social conservatives!'

conversely, if a mormon, homosexual, muslim or pro-choice person feels their rights have been somehow violated. if they feel they have not been treated fairly. this becomes a media story of intolerance, bigotry, prejudice. we are immediately called upon and admonished to be "tolerant"....to understand differences and embrace them. don't judge. they cry, "who are YOU to say something is wrong.. we all have our own standards...everybody just do your own thing, and we'll live happily together in our diversity." nice thought, BUT.....

friends, if there is no standard...there is no place from which to measure right and wrong. if the standards move...the entire society moves. we see it happening today, before our very eyes. the standards are randomly being moved...and our society is moving....and folks, most americans would agree, it is NOT in a good direction.

with no standards, there is no moral code. everybody just "does what they feel is right to them." which is highly subjective. inevitably, anarchy ensues. and we, as christians, are all to stand by and simply be "tolerant."

indeed, this is an ongoing spiritual issue that is being played out over and over now, in schools, government etc....examples such as christian children in public schools, being denied an after school bible study on campus. yet, muslim children are afforded one hour of 'school time' with supervisors and special speakers to practice their muslim religion. reading of the koran and learning about the muslim religion is mandatory curriculum. however, reading from the Bible is prohibited. (separation of church and state, you know...) opening government sessions with prayer is now become controversial and even prohibited in some instances. yet, having a muslim or buddhist to open a session is not only okay, but applauded as exhibiting understanding and tolerance of other religions. yes, folks there is clearly a double standard, here.

now, here we have an unapologetic evangelical christian like mike huckabee running for the president of united states. it is abundantly clear, that governor huckabee is also on the receiving end of this same double standard. governor huckabee, is currently leading the pack and the polls. he is proving to be a viable contender to win the nomination. the reality of this threat, gives occasion for many to go on the attack. the wolves are coming out in force. in many ways, governor huckabee's campaign and his bid for the presidency is a microcosm of what is happening all over america to many christians. it seems more frequently, christians' rights are being violated, in the name of 'tolerance' for others. indeed, it seems clear, we are in the last days. (maranatha!)

but, for those that are constantly calling for christians to be "tolerant".....where is the "tolerance from the tolerant??" where is the tolerance for christians and what we value??"

friends, we are all different and diverse, we all have preferences. and we live in a country that affords us many glorious freedoms. however, we cannot allow these freedoms to come back to bite us. with too much rope, we can surely hang ourselves. we must have a standard. we must have a moral code by which to live. and no man, in his finite capacity can determine what the balance and standard should be. we need to look to Whom our founding father's looked and depended. we need to go back to what our country was founded upon, and by which it flourished. we need to get back to God and the Bible. we need to refocus and recalibrate. we need to find our bearings again.

although, many cry "tolerance!" on the contrary, i believe as a country, we should be crying , "dependence!" .... dependence upon God.

as governor huckabee continues his bid for the white house, he will surely endure more unfair attacks, accusations, questions and unfair reporting. indeed, the double standard will continue.

friends, we need to PRAY FOR GOVERNOR HUCKABEE. we need to pray for our country. we need to pray for the christians across america. we are blessed to have freedoms in america that others around the world do not enjoy. we have the luxury of democracy and the freedom of religion. we must continue to pray, and work to maintain these freedoms, lest we become like others around the world that have lost that liberty and suffer and are peresecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ.

christians, this double standard issue is much larger thing than just governor huckabee and the presidential race. it is rampant throughout the country and the world. as christians, we must do what we can practically, to help secure and maintain our christian religious freedoms. in many ways, christians are now the underdogs. we are now the one's that must fight for our rights, liberties and freedoms. it has come to a time, that we can no longer take these religious liberties for granted. it now requires greater involvement and commitment on behalf of the christian. we must stand up and fight for what we believe. like governor huckabee said in his speech in washington d.c. "we believe in some things.. we live and die by these things...we won't sacrifice our principles for anybody's politics."

christians, it is time to mobilize and get involved. it is time to assert ourseslves, and let our voices be heard.

The Dumond Case: "The UNREPORTED Facts ..."

recently, there has been a deluge of media criticism regarding governor huckabee and the wayne dumond case. there have been countless news programs and news articles detailing governor huckabee's so-call responsibility and involvement in this case. unfortunately, ALL THE FACTS OF THE CASE HAVE NOT BEEN ACCURATELY REPORTED.

below is an article written by brian cherry of 'the new media journal'. in it, mr. cherry presents details of the case that have not been widely reported in the main stream media. mr. cherry presents the history and background of the case. he also explains commutation, pardon and parole in the state of arkasas, and specifically, governor huckabee's role in this case.

here a few excerpts: (note: this article contains colorful commentary and graphic details.)

"...Wayne Dumond’s journey to freedom started when Bill Clinton’s liberal Democrat successor to Governorship of Arkansas, Jim Guy Tucker, commuted Dumond’s sentence from life plus twenty years to a total of 39 years. Thanks to Tucker this dangerous predator became eligible for parole in 1994 instead of being locked away from society forever. Huckabee inherited this issue when Guy Tucker was convicted of corruption associated with the Whitewater investigation and forced to resign.

In 1999 the parole board took a vote regarding the release of Dumond, and the majority cast their lot in favor of letting him out of jail. Portraying this democratic vote to parole a convict as a gubernatorial pardon is about as accurate as describing the landslide victory of Ronald Reagan as a great moment in the history of despotic power grabs.

Ever since the release and subsequent crimes of Dumond, the members of the parole board responsible for his freedom have used the occasion of a Huckabee election cycle to rush to any available microphone and claim that the Governor forced them to parole the rapist.

Every member of the parole board that freed Dumond was either appointed by Bill Clinton or Jim Guy Tucker; both liberal Democrats and opponents of Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee was never shy about his intentions regarding Dumond, he leaned heavily to the side of seeing the man released. The parole board saw it this way, too. The reasons for this were because compelling evidence shed light on the possibility that Dumond was actually not guilty. Any good Governor or parole board would do their ethical best to err on the side justice.

The case was politically charged in the state of Arkansas because the victim in the rape that sent Wayne Dumond to prison for life plus twenty years was Ashley Stevens, a teenaged cheerleader and cousin of Bill Clinton.

Let’s ignore the sympathy for Dumond that was inspired when he was assaulted in his home, hogtied, castrated, and his testicles displayed in a jar on the desk of Sheriff Coolidge Conlee. According to Steve Dunleavy of the New York Post, Conlee even put a note under the body parts that stated "That's what happens to people who fool around in my county." Sympathy isn’t evidence, even though it may sway the sort who participates in the politics of really bitter tears, we shouldn’t release criminals because we feel sorry for them. In the case of Wayne Dumond his release was partly due to the fact that the victim’s account and the evidence were at odds.

One of the most emotionally charged moments in this continuing saga was when Ashley Stevens went nearly nose to nose with Governor Huckabee and said, "This is how close I was to Wayne Dumond, and I will never forget his face, and you will never forget mine. He's the one that raped me." Oddly enough, according to NewsMax, she couldn’t remember the eye color of the man whose face she would “never forget”. When giving a description of Dumond she got this basic fact wrong along with a botched description of the vehicle he was driving.

There are other problems with this case that are on a genetic level, and when we say “genetic” we don’t mean the foggy memory that seems to kick in whenever somebody with Clinton DNA has to answer questions. We mean that the DNA from the crime scene didn’t match that of Wayne Dumond.

Dr. Moses Schanfield, who heads the Analytic Genetic Testing Center in Denver, took the semen sample left on Ashley’s jeans, and tested it to see if it matched Wayne Dumond at a genetic level. After the results of the test were in, Schanfield told New York Post reporter, Steve Dunleavy, that "This case was a disgrace" and that sperm found on the girl's jeans could not “in a million years” belong to Dumond. Moses Schafield testified to this fact during one of Dumond’s appeals.

In the end Wayne Dumond was sent to, and kept in jail based on nothing more then the word of the victim, a botched description, and DNA that was a negative match for his.

People can speculate all they want on Huckabee’s involvement in this issue and the parole board members can continue to try to blame him for the vote that they made of their own free will; that’s just the politicized world we live in today.

We can also ask questions like did the criminal castration and imprisonment of an innocent man turn him into a monster, or was Dumond already a monster who got framed for a crime he didn’t commit? All this is open for consideration. The fact that cannot be contested is that Dumond was paroled by a vote of board members that were all appointed by liberal Democrats, not pardoned by Governor Huckabee who happens to be a Republican; these are two completely different things.

The parole board is an independent entity that used its constitutional power to secure Dumond’s release. In Arkansas, the Governor has no vote or say in this process. Huckabee’s only legal action in this case was to deny Executive Clemency. These are facts that ABC not only didn’t present, but distorted either by incompetence or design.

it is frustrating and pathetic, that the media can distort the facts so purposefully. they have such power to wield. simply a headline accusing governor huckabee can mislead the public, leading to foregone conclusions.

despite the media's intense "spin" on this case, governor huckabee continues to graciously and consistently address the issues presented, with the truth. that's all he can do.

friends, let's pray for governor huckabee. pray that God will sustain him, as he perseveres through the media and opponents' attacks. and pray that americans will see past the 'spin', and seek and see the truth.

Endorsements: "Convictions vs. SELF Interest"

dear friends,

boy, what a week of endorsements (and non-endorsements) it has been. sadly, it seems apparent, that behind the scenes 'strategic political positioning' and 'power and politics' are, indeed, alive and well in the world of washington and the media. how very very sad and disturbing. yet, based on what i've seen thus far, not surprising.

as a follow up to my last post, i have a question i wanted to address, regarding the endorsements by well known christian leaders, "WHY ARE THEY WAITING? WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR?" i've heard on more than one occasion, the following responses, "we're going to wait and see what happens,"... "see how things shake down, "... "wait to see who the front runners are, and go from there,".....but my response to that is.........."WHY??"

if, in fact, the basic premise of the christian is, I WILL VOTE MY VALUES AND PRINCIPLES (of which, i hold most dear.) then, what does 'how things shake down', or 'waiting to see what happens', or 'let's see who's in the general election, then i'll make my decision', have anything to do with it? that is a contradiction!

essentially, it sounds like hedging one's bets. it sounds as if they are trying to 'protect and insulate' themselves. these leaders are willing to endorse a candidate...assuming, that candidate has a good chance of winning. they want to choose a 'winner'. they want to be on the 'winning team'. but what does that say about that leader? what does that say about their convictions, principles and values?

in my opinion, it doesn't sound like values, principles or convictions are motivating the decision. rather, it sounds like personal reputation, personal credibility, personal relevancy and SELF are taking center stage. how very very sad.

one thing to note: for those in positions of influence and leadership...welcomed or not, along with the position of prominence and leadership, along with the blessings of success and influence, comes responsibility.

in webster's, the word "leader" is defined as follows: to show the way, as by going before; to direct as by going before; one that leads; guiding head. it would appear, that a 'leader', goes BEFORE...the troops... NOT waiting to see how things pan out. they are ahead of the pack guiding...they initiate.

i believe this applies to christians in public leadership positions, as well as to, "us", the rank and file christians. each of us has our own scope of influence around us. great or small, each of us can impact those around us. each of us, has a responsibility to live out our faith and our convictions in our choices and actions.

for those christian leaders and rank and file evangelicals, that are taking a stand and supporting governor huckabee now....today... i say, "bravo!". it takes courage, it takes integrity, it takes making a 'conscious decision' to ACT upon one's values and principles....not just to talk about them...not to just wait and see.

christians, our values and principles today, are the same as they will be tomorrow or next year. we believe in what we believe in, period. it's non-negotiable. unfortunately, next year or next election, we may not have the opportunity to support a candidate, like mike huckabee for president. waiting to see, and not acting today, we may lose this opportunity to elect a man that has integrity, character and competency. beyond that, mike huckabee has the humility and meekness to understand his need for God, and his sense of responsibility to the american people.

i just received something in the mail today from the family research council. it's motto, "defending faith, family and freedom in america." frankly, the actions (and lack thereof) that i've seen in the last several months by this organization and it's leaders, (and others like it)...i say..."no, thank you." i would prefer NOT having this pac 'defending my family, faith and freedom'.

on the contrary, i would much rather align myself with like-minded, grassroots christians, that are personally committed to faith, family and freedom, IN ACTION.....NOT just on their letterhead or their mission or their motto.

sadly, it appears those that are in positions of influence are, themselves... BEING INFLUENCED by position, politics and power.

so whether the high profile christian leaders choose to endorse governor huckabee or not. i am perfectly content and honored to identify with leaders like alcorn, norris, wildmon, folger, graham and fellow rank and file christians alike. for these are the people that understand full well...who they are supporting and why. they have chosen to take a stand. they have chosen to act on their convictions. i greatly admire these people. they give me hope and encouragement. they inspire and motivate me.

to all you christians, that are taking a stand for what you believe in...for your values... for your faith... for your convictions... for what you feel is right...to you also... i say, "thank you, and i am honored to stand along side you."

Don Wildmon & Randy Alcorn Take a Stand!

good news to report!! i'm sure you may have heard that don wildmon (founder and chairman of American Family Association) has officially endorsed governor huckabee.

The Rev. Dr. Donald E. Wildmon, founder and chairman of the American Family Association, has given his personal endorsement to the former Southern Baptist preacher.

“I think he shares our values,” Wildmon said, according to OneNewsNow, which is operated by the American Family News Network.

“Will we agree with Governor Huckabee on 100 percent of items? No, we will not,” the ordained United Methodist pastor admitted.

“But when you take the whole ball of wax, I think Governor Huckabee is the person we need,” he added. “I think he has the skills to bring us together. I think he has the leadership and the vision, and I think he can take the country to that place where we need to be desperately at this point in our history.”

A growing number of Americans are agreeing with Wildmon or at least considering a similar view of the former Arkansas governor.

this is fantastic news not only for governor huckabee, but also for the rank and file evangelical christians. many christians have been waiting, yearning and praying.. for a christian leader to step out, and take a stand on behalf of values and principles vs. politics and power. go, mr. wildmon!

another recent endorsement for governor huckabee, is by well known christian author, Randy Alcorn. at his blog, mr. alcorn recounts his past experiences with politics, and explains why he has chosen to support governor huckabee. here are few excerpts:

And, frankly, six months ago if you’d asked if I’d be endorsing a presidential candidate I would probably have said “no way,” because I couldn’t envision a candidate I would actually trust. However, God has called us to be good stewards of our opportunities, and to be His representatives in every area. And, contrary to my expectations, there actually is a candidate that I, a political skeptic, believe to be a man of integrity, wisdom, winsomeness, faith and yes, even eternal perspective.

In my opinion, Huckabee doesn’t just know the words; he knows the music. You can see the authenticity in him. I heard him say, “I do not spell G-O-D G.O.P.” That means he’s a follower of Christ before he’s a follower of the Republican party. He’s not overbearing in his spiritual beliefs, but he never apologizes for them. He’s humble and self-effacing. He’s not in your face, yet he’s firm in conviction. I actually think this guy says what he believes and believes what he says. And I have to say, I don’t think that about most politicians.He says some things that are unpopular and will lose him votes and he says them anyway—I love the courage that reflects.

I appreciate Huckabee’s wit, sincerity, intelligence and wisdom. In his interviews, I like that he’s self-deprecating. He’s not an angry conservative. He’s winsome. And I get the feeling he’s not conservative to be conservative. I think he doesn’t care how he looks as much as whether he’s right— how he stands before God first, and people second. And he doesn’t just mouth the words “I’m prolife,” then fail to take measures to defend the unborn from destruction, as many nominally prolife politicians do.

I don’t agree with everything Huckabee says. And I’m sure he’s not the perfect candidate. No one is. But from what I’ve seen, I think he’s head and shoulders above the alternatives in any party. Call it subjective, since I’ve never met him, but I trust him. And I can’t support and recommend people I don’t trust.While I would hate to be a politician, I have always thanked God for men and women who are called to that. So I thank God for Mike Huckabee. And especially when he labors to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, I feel like the least I can do is support him.

well said, mr. alcorn! this is so encouraging! christian leaders are beginning to take a stand.

yet, as i sit and watch, i think am beginning to see somewhat of a trend or pattern, in the endorsements. it appears to me, that the "political, business minded, win-at-all-costs, power-type" leaders (weyrich, jones, demoss) are choosing romney. these men have a relationship with romney either via business or politically. they have vested interests in the nomination. it's about pragmatics, politics and power.

on the other side, the "conservative, traditional, grassroots, bible based, principle-based leaders are choosing huckabee; (norris, scarborough, wildmon, alcorn). with them, it's about principles, values, competency and trusting in God. it's not about "who can win or who is electable", but rather, who has character, integrity, trustworthiness, consistency and competency. who do we trust to lead this country? most of these endorsements, come from men that have personally researched the candidates, watched, listened and studied. they have no business or political relationships to gain. their choice to endorse governor huckabee is an educated one. it is NOT one based on politics, business or power.

additionally, i see a trend , specifically, amongst huckabee supporters. many of those in leadership and those in the evangelical community (myself, included) who support governor huckabee, were previously NEVER involved or interested in politics or politcal candidates...until now...until mike huckabee. governor huckabee and his campaign for the presidency are causing and compelling many previously apathetic and disinterested christians....who were previously content to remain silent and on the sidelines... to become involved, to become fired up, to take a stand, to support...to take action on behalf of governor huckabee. this is significant.

ultimately, despite who christian leaders decide to endorse, the endorsement is only as relevant as the leader, himself, is relevant. (which, by the way, is quickly becoming an issue for many of those in christian leadership.)

it really boils down to the people...the voters...the rank and file. like i've heard governor huckabee say regarding the endorsements.....(paraphrased) "the leaders are just one vote. i'd rather have the followers, than the leaders." i say, "amen!!"

we, my friends, are the followers, we are the 'rank and file'.... we are the thousands and millions, to their handful of hundreds. WE are the ones that will nominate and elect the next president of the united states, NOT the christian leadership.

don't get me wrong, endorsements are wonderful, and can speak volumes and can translate into money and support, for the candidates. but christians, let us be careful to scrutinize not only the candidates themselves, but those who are endorsing them, as well. "...by their fruit, you will know them..."

However, Anderson noted evangelicals are still concern on Huckabee’s ranking in polls.
“If he does well in the Iowa caucuses or early primaries then Evangelicals may suddenly rally to his support,” the NAE head predicted.

friends, here is another example of leadership hedging their bets. despite, their heartfelt and initial convictions, they are waiting to "see" how things pan out first, before offering their support. friends, let NOT be as these leaders. instead, let us be people, that pray, act and vote on our convictions and values FIRST and trust God for the rest. let us NOT get caught up in the political power game.

hopefully, i pray, the endorsements from leaders like wildmon, alcorn and norris, will encourage and embolden other leaders, and rank and file christians alike... to research, to pray, and to take a stand on behalf of values and convictions OVER politics and power.

thank you, mr. wildmon, mr. alcorn, mr. norris, mr.scarborough and all the others, that have taken a stand. not only have you strengthened governor huckabee's campaign, but you have strengthened and encouraged, "us", the rank and file christians watching, as well. for that, we say, "thank you."

friends, "christian leadership, and their endorsements"...what is going on?!

if christian leaders continue to endorse and support what is 'popular, pragmatic, political and expedient', at the expense of principles and values. they will , indeed, find...that they are damaging the pro-family movement, which they claim to value and represent....with their very own hands. additionally, these leaders will to continue to lose relevancy, credibility and respect from the christian community and their grassroots constituency.

below is an interesting article by randy thomasson of 'campaign for children and families'. in it, mr. thomasson articulates what is happening amongst pro-family leaders and the compromise involved, when endorsing candidates like rudy guiliani and mitt romney.

GOP officials say the conservative Kansas senator will endorse his Senate colleague later today. The endorsement comes as a boost to McCain, especially in Iowa, where he has been trailing in polls.

This story just makes me laugh!!! How in the world can this endorsement come as a boost to McCain, when Brownback's numbers were what, one percent? Yeah, big boost there!! I think Brownback must've told McCain, "Hey, I'll endorse you if you consider me for VP" -- it's the game of politics, friends!

And Pat Robertson's endorsement of Rudy Giuliani?!?!? HA!!!!!!!!!! For the most part, Robertson is seen as a "nut" in many evangelical circles, so this may not be that big of a deal. Plus now good ol' Pat will have to answer to many of his supporters, who are gonna wonder how he could endorse a pro-homosexual, anti-life candidate!

friends, below is an archive post from august. i wanted to repost it, for those that have not read this before...but more importantly, to remind us all ....why we're involved and supporting governor huckabee for the presidency....BECAUSE OF OUR CONVICTIONS...

below are excerpts from an interview with govenor mike huckabee regarding the evangelical christians' involvement in the presidential election and political process. govenor huckabee eloquently and passionately articulates the issues at hand. (emphasis mine)

"If Christian Evangelicals and the leaders within that community don't give support to a person who is one of them. Who's not coming to them.. but is coming from them. Then it will have a chilling effect on future Evangelicals wanting to run for office.

They're gonna say, "You know what? If I can't get the support of my own family, of the people who are most like me, people who have in essence mentored and encouraged me, then maybe, for whatever reasons they are looking elsewhere"... means that we've now come to a place where we've lost any real sense of the Evangelical Leader having a role.

If the NRA, for example says well this time, 'We don't care about your position on guns, it's really all about your position on global warming.' Then the NRA has just lost it's leverage. If Greenpeace says, 'We don't care about your positon on the environment all we care about is your position on guns', they've lost their leverage on their issue.

If the Evangelical Comminity doesn't hold our feet to the fire as canidates, about our own personal character as well as our stand and our record on issues like the sacntity of human life and the role of traditional marriage, then you know what? We've lost our leverage. We're another political special interest group like the Republican Women of any county USA. I would hate to see that happen. Because many of us have become involved in and embroiled in the political world BECAUSE of our convictions, BECAUSE we believe things.

the above table is just a sample of an 11 page document by James Bopp Jr., of the James Madison Center for Free Speech. this is a fantastic and timely tool for pastors, churches and non-profits. this document provides a clear explanation of the law, as it pertains to non-profits, in the areas of political involvement and activity.

i believe this is something that ALL PASTORS, CHURCHES and NON-PROFITS 501(c)(3) organizations should review.

currently, it appears many churches, pastors and christian organizations have been effectively silenced and hamstrung from voicing any opinions or having any influence in the political process. it appears many have been hesitant to 'speak their mind' on issues and candidates, due to the fear of laws and irs regulations.

hopefully, this document will better inform and equip many in these areas. therefore, allowing christians, churches and pastors, to have a voice in the political process and upcoming elections.

obviously, the mainstream media and many liberal leaders, do not hesitate to speak their minds, and endorse and promote their own liberal agendas. they do not have laws and regulations restricting their activities or involvements. this is clearly evident. their voices are dominant.

christians, we need a voice, too. i know many christians shun involvement, and say, "but you must trust God." friends, i heartily agree. yes, WE MUST TRUST GOD. but WE MUST ALSO DO OUR PART and TAKE A STEP IN FAITH.

david beat goliath, not by sitting on the sidelines waiting for goliath to back down and go away. although, God could very well have delivered goliath into his hand. instead, david went into battle with 5 smooth stones. and God delivered goliath into his hand.

the story of joshua and jericho...God could have knocked the walls down at the start. instead, the men marched around the walls for 6 days. and as we know from our sunday school classes, that on the 7th day, with trumpets blowing and a loud shout, God brought the walls tumbling down.

at the pool of siloam in john 9:11, "a Man called Jesus made clay and annointed my eyes and said to me, 'go to the pool of siloam and wash.' so i went and washed and i received my sight."

countless times in the bible, God calls us to put action to our faith. it is abundantly clear, that any victories we experience ARE A DIRECT RESULT OF GOD'S HAND. specifically, in this world, we are, indeed, the 'underdogs... the davids', if you will. yet, we know, God can do all things. we know God gets all the glory. but friends, where our own little steps of faith?

Rank and File: It's Time to Stretch...

friends,
after watching governor huckabee in the values voters summit and the gop debate this past weekend, i am even MORE convinced and committed as to his strength and electability for the presidency. the house was rockin!

unfortunately, i am also even MORE convinced, that the current christian leadership is NOT at all interested or supportive of governor huckabee. whether it be his multiple straw poll wins, his rise in the iowa polls or his increased traction. it is simply irrelevant to them.

a recent article by marc ambinder of the atlantic co., had this to say about why christian leadership are not supporting governor huckabee.

the SoCon establishment in Washington fears Huckabee because Huckabee can empower social conservatives DIRECTLY, without the mediating influence, or dollars, of the SoCon establishment.

Huckabee has an independent streak. The establishment is threatened. Their interests are at stake and they want candidates who are beholden to them. Huckabee doesn't fit the bill.

regarding the christian leadership's support of mitt romney:

Sources say that a rough consensus has not gelled among the 40 or so evangelical leaders who met in private this weekend to figure out what to do next. Some are resigned -- not enthusiastic about, but resigned -- to the candidacy of Mitt Romney. The hope is that he feel indebted to social conservatives if they rally around him and will be thus inspired to reward them somehow in office.

unfortunately, the above theories are disgusting to me, but do make alot of sense. it is painfully clear, that these leaders have their own agendas. agendas that DO NOT include governor huckabee. it is also abundantly clear, that despite the ongoing correspondence with many of these leaders.... these leaders have no intention of changing their positions regarding governor huckabee. they seem to have a vested interest.

obviously, there there is a significant difference between what christian leadership deems important, and what the rank and file evangelical voter values. as clearly evidenced at the values voter summit in washington d.c. this past weekend.

yesterday, an article in time magazine addressed this very issue in "huckabee's bid for the christian right". author amy sullivan highlighted the struggle and fundamental differences between christian leadership, and the rank and file christian voter.

The conflict has been brewing underneath the surface, but the results of the straw poll at Saturday's Values Voters Summit made it official: the real struggle in the 2008 Republican primaries will be not between Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney or social conservatives and fiscal conservatives but between Christian Right leaders and the conservatives in the pews.

i believe ms. sullivan's comments to ring very true. (see archived post: "christian leaders gone astray")

a wise christian leader recently told me, (paraphrased) "we have a representative government. therefore, we must vote for the candidate that BEST REPRESENTS US and OUR VALUES."

christians, we cannot allow ourselves to be bullied or herded into following the current christian leadership. the current leadership is not accurately representing the evangelical christian values voter.

as a result, leadership's credibility is seriously being questioned. in an attempt to forward their agenda, and at the cost of abandoning christian principles and values, these leaders may turn around..and see 'nobody is following'....and may very well lose their relevancy in the process.

UPDATE: a recent article by the 'right wing watch' outlines the perceived predicament of christian leadership.

While many leaders want to endorse fan favorite Mike Huckabee, others are more hesitant. The source informed me that "the dilemma is over whether to choose the preferred candidate of their constituents or go with the pragmatic choice and risk offending our base."

Huckabee's rock star reception at the Value Voters Summit made things more difficult.
Interestingly, the source described a "new pragmatic narrative" that may be forming: "None of the top-tier can beat Hillary anyway so why risk offending the base by snubbing Huckabee?"
Either way, social conservative leaders are in a bind.
"If we don't support Huckabee we tick off religious conservatives," the source lamented. "If we push Huckabee we tick off everyone else. It's a tough situation to be in."

christians, if the above article has any grain of truth to it....WE MUST ACT.

the christian leadership is in a quandary. NOW IS THE TIME TO PUT THE PRESSURE ON! we cannot let them squirm out of this one. we cannot give them an option. THEY FULLY MUST UNDERSTAND what is at stake. we have to get them where it hurts. where they will listen. they must understand in no uncertain terms that they are at HIGH RISK of losing the support of their christian grassroots constituency. this is what they fear. it has got to hurt them more to alienate "us" (their grassroots christian base) than anybody else. we must hold them accountable.

and we MUST COMMUNICATE THIS TO THEM. we must get the message out.....directly and also with our blogs, christian media AND with the MSM. we have got to make them understand what is at risk if they choose to disregard governor huckabee as the christian conservative candidate of choice. the washington briefing spoke volumes as to the true choice of the christian values voter. we cannot allow the enthusiasm, passion and power of that day to be forgotten.

we need to ride them on this one. and we need to do it while the iron is still hot!!! i know it may sound a bit harsh, but it's tough love, folks...if there's a chance we can influence the situation. we must at least try. beyond issues of leadership, we, as 'rank and file christians', can contribute greatly to governor huckabee's cause. at a grassroots level, we can hit the ground running, and start doing things within our communities to support and promote governor huckabee.

i believe, the greatest thing we can do for the governor is to GET THE WORD OUT. we need to inform people about governor huckabee. much of it, is name recognition. other candidates have the money to run endless commercials nationally. governor huckabee's campaign does not have that luxury. presently, he has not been able to go nationally...friends, WE MUST GO NATIONALLY FOR HIM. each of us, within our communities can spread the word.

i know, i know....this is a stretch. in fact, just today.. i stretched. it wasn't easy, but i did it. i called into a national christian radio show to ask a question to a well known and respected pastor regarding christians and politics in the gop race. i was scared to death!! but i did it. i did it, because i so strongly believe in governor huckabee and his message. and i realize that without each of us doing our part and 'stretching' a bit, governor huckabee won't get a fair chance or shake.

another BIG stretch: just a couple days ago, chuck norris publicly endorsed governor huckabee. (article here) this was huge!

but what impressed me the most...was that not only did chuck norris write an extensive piece on the how's and why's of endorsing governor huckabee, but he did it unsolicited. apparently, chuck norris has never met governor huckabee. he has been watching, listening, reading, and researching on his own. chuck norris did his homework!! and then he went out on a limb, and publicly endorsed governor huckabee. folks, that takes guts and conviction!

what does chuck norris have to gain? not much. what does he have to lose? probably alot more. but he stepped out in faith...he stepped out on his convictions.....he stretched, big time.
in turn, this will likely embolden many others to do likewise.

friends, we may not be chuck norris, but we can each do our 'own version' of chuck norris. we can each step out in faith...we can each step out on our convictions....we can each stretch...we can each embolden others around us, to do likewise.

the washington briefing has just ended. the straw poll results are in:

ON SITE voting results:

Mike Huckabee 488 51.26%
Mitt Romney 99 10.40%
Fred Thompson 77 8.09%

ONLINE voting results:

Mitt Romney 1595 27.62%
Mike Huckabee 1565 27.15%
Ron Paul 865 14.98%
Fred Thompson 564 9.77%

once again, the values voters have spoken. and once again, it is in favor of governor huckabee.

however, once again, it is readily apparent, that christian leadership refuses to acknowledge or accept the choice of the values voter. this is a travesty. we must voice our displeasure with leadership. moreover, if christian leadership and organizations do not accurately represent our christian values, we must also reconsider our ongoing support of them.

below is a copy of a letter sent to family research council regarding their seemingly biased reporting of the washington briefing straw poll results.

Dear FRC,

I had the privilege of watching the Washington Briefing online via AFA.

Listening to the presidential speeches, it was clear that those in attendance, enthusiastically supported Governor Huckabee.

The on SITE straw poll clearly indicated this as well. With a 5/1 margin, Governor Huckabee was the clear winner. However, this was not reported on your FRC site. Why not? Not only are the results partial and inaccurate, this is a disservice to those who took the time and commitment to attend the event.

Obviously, online polls can be manipulated. Historically, straw polls are targeted to those committed enough to attend and cast their vote. To highlight the online vote, and neglect the "on site" vote, is both inaccurate and irresponsible.

If you are going to report the results, you have an obligation to report ALL THE ACCURATE RESULTS in their entirety.

Hello,
I did not attend the WB this weekend, but for those that DID ATTEND and voted, they must be furious!!!

It was obvious just by watching online, that the majority of attendees supported and favored Gov. Huckabee.

Yet, the way the 'winner' was announced, and the subsequent 'spin' of the results on FRC's website, has resulted in 'spin' for Romney throughout all the media outlets. The headlines read, "Romney wins Values Voter Summit". Although, some do mention some of the numbers, not many go into detail on how close the online voting was NOR do they highlight the 5/1 domination of the onsite voting.

For those who took the time to attend the summit, supporting FRC and the Christian Social Conservative organizations, this is a gross misrepresentation. The votes of those in attendance were unanimously cast in favor of Govenor Huckabee, yet that is not reflected by the tone or language of FRC.

FRC's biased handling of the straw poll results, have resulted in a domino effect in the MSM. FRC doesn't want to give Gov. Huckabee any love, and obviously, neither do the MSM.

FRC and the MSM need to hear our displeasure. FRC must be held accountable for their actions. Somebody somehow needs to personally confront Tony Perkins on these issues. I, for one, plan on immediately cancelling my FRC membership.

Pray Christians...pray....

initially, i tried to give these leaders the benefit of the doubt, the courtesy of good intentions. however, now it is clear.....these christian leaders have their own agenda. and unfortunately, it does not coincide with the values voter.

during the washington briefing, laura ingham described this ailment as, "ABC", an acronym for "anybody but clinton". friends, sadly, it is clear, that this is the mentality of the current christian leadership ....."ABC."

ironically, the entire weekend, leader after leader got on stage, behind the podium, talking and preaching on 'bliblical principles', 'values', 'voting your conscience', 'faith', 'God'. it was very inspiring! but ya know what, friends? for all of those speakers...good intentioned, sincere, authentic or otherwise....THEIR CREDIBILITY IS NOW ON THE LINE. they spoke it, and preached it to all of us.....now let's see THEM LIVE IT, as well.

let's see them 'step out in faith' and support the candidate that meets the criteria they set out in their speeches. let's see them make their decisions based on biblical principles and values. let's see them reconcile their christian faith, as they choose a candidate, in this GOP presidential primary. let's see it.

as leaders within the christian community, all these individuals have a unique responsibility in this political process. like it or not, they wield influence and power. some embrace it, some shun it. nonetheless, they have it. since they chose to speak publicly to values voters on politics and the presidential nomination, they now also have a responsibility to personally act on what they have professed. they are accountable.

many will have excuses, as to why they cannot publicly endorse a candidate. they will continually talk 'around' the issues and person. they will avoid specifically naming names..only eluding to their choice. i'm sorry, friends, but to me... this is a cop out.

they claim they want to maintain privacy as to who they will vote for. unfortunately, as high profile christian leaders, and specifically those who publicly exhorted and admonished christians to vote their values. they do not have that luxury. instead, they have a responsibility.

frankly, for these christian leaders that chose to speak at the washington briefing summit, their credibility is now on the line. i am anxiously awaiting to see if what they spoke so passionately about on the stage, will flesh itself out, in their personal actions.

i sincerely hope and pray, it will. i stand back... waiting and watching. praying that they will, indeed, stand on biblical principles and will not compromise. the coming days and weeks will be telling. we must watch, we must hold leadership accountable.

for the rest of us in the community....we also have a responsibility. albeit smaller in scope than that of high profile leadership, but a responsibility, nonetheless. christians, IT IS TIME TO TAKE ACTION. IT IS TIME TO STEP OUT IN FAITH. NOW IS THE TIME.

if you have had convictions...if you have had an inkling.. if you've felt a tugging at your heart that just hasn't gone away...if you've been thinking you 'should', but just couldn't...if you wish you could somehow help governor huckabee, but, but, but.......friends, NOW IS THE TIME.

there are only a few months left till the iowa caucus. as a result of the washington briefing straw poll, governor huckabee is now at a pivotal point in his campaign. if you have wanted to support governor huckabee up to now, and haven't....and were waiting for a good time....NOW IS YOUR TIME.

if you wanted to donate money, but were waiting till the general election or later down the road...friends, NOW is when governor huckabee needs the financial support. if you have wanted to get involved in grassroots efforts for the governor, but just didn't have the time....(you guessed it...) NOW IS THE TIME. now is the time, to MAKE TIME....before it's too late.

Christian Leaders Gone Astray

friends, the title of this post, says it all,"christian leaders gone astray." what is happening to the current christian leadership?? in turn, what does this mean to to the christian community at large?

as i continue to learn more about politics, and specifically, christians in politics, i find myself becoming increasingly disillusioned and discouraged. i stand by and watch christian leaders, doing things and making decisions, that seem uncharacteristic and inconsistent with the bible.

but how can that be?? they are christians. they read the same Bible we read. they go to church and worship on sunday. as bible believing christians, how can a christian possibly reconcile being pro-choice and same sex marriage? if they are leaders, we are assuming they are called into that position of leadership. they have a responsibility to represent the christian community with integrity, right?

friends, i wish i knew the answers to those questions. moreover, i wish i could give a resounding "yes!" to the integrity question amongst leadership. however, unfortunately, i cannot. on the contrary, up to now, i find myself continually aghast and appalled as i watch christian leadership in action. it just doesn't seem consistent with the christianity i know.

yet, upon further thought, i realize it is, indeed, a different christianity. it is POLITICAL CHRISTIANITY. (yes, i hear all the, "aaahs.." and see the nodding of heads....) this is a different bird, entirely.

apart from dr. dobson's recent ope-ed article, it appears the current high profile christian leadership has gone awry. leaders like gary bauer, tony perkins, and richard land are seriously compromising principles and values for what they perceive to be, the win. they are asking the christian community to have 'an open mind', and invoking 'christian charity' on issues that are clearly contrary to the christian fatih and beliefs. they are compromising, and are asking the christian community do the same. I, FOR ONE, WILL NOT!!

although, as christians, ideally we look to leadership for guidance and leadership. we must also realize we have a personal responsibility to exercise wisdom and prudence, in whom we follow and why. we must carefully scrutinize the credibility of the leaders as well as the viability of their arguments and recommendations.

this past week, in an article for "the hill" both gary bauer of american values and tony perkins, of family research council spoke to "reporters at a breakfast sponsored by The Christian Science Monitor in advance of next week’s Values Voter Summit."

gary bauer and tony perkins are speaking at a breakfast sponsored by the christian science monitor?!! this is the same group founded by mary baker eddy, the church of christ, scientist. friends, the church of christ, scientist and mary baker eddy are NOT representative of evangelical judeo christianity. why are two high profile evangelical christian leaders speaking at a breakfast sponsored by a christian cult? what is wrong with this picture?? for more information re: "the church of christ: christian or cult?" see here.

this is troubling, friends...very troubling.

this past week, both gary bauer and tony perkins have been encouraging and unofficially endorsing canidates like mitt romney and fred thompson. it also appears they are actively trying to dissuade christians from considering support of govenor huckabee. in the article, they ask for an 'open mind' to canidate thompson, and proceed to try and punch holes in govenor huckabee's policies and viability.

friends, there is something amiss.

also, this past week a well known christian public relations executive, sent out a 5 page letter. (published in the new york times) to 150 conservative christian leaders, asking for support of mitt romney, despite his mormon faith. stating, "it's not if you would vote for a mormon, but would you vote for this mormon." unfortunately, the rest of the letter does not get much better.

what are these christian leaders thinking??!!

yesterday, i heard an insightful teaching by a well known bible teacher. the study was on psalm 118. specifically, he cited verses 8-9.

"it is better to trust in the Lord, than to put confidence in man. it is better to trust in the Lord. than to put confidence in princes." psalm 118:8-9

the teacher proceeded to discuss that this principle was important to remember, specifically, when voting. he said we needed to vote our 'conscience and principles' and trust God for the rest.

he then cited 2 chronicles 7:14
"if my people who are called by My name, will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land."

he then explained, that in context, this refers to "US". it refers to christians, the child of God. if WE will humble ourselves, pray, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways...THEN God will heal our land.

christian, the responsibility lies squarely on OUR shoulders. WE must exercise our will and choose GOD. simply because current christian leadership is compromising....does not mean we must follow.

christians, we must pray. we must humble ourselves before the Lord, seek God's face, and turn from our wicked ways. quite simply, it is going back to the basics. it starts with each one of us.

God has always given us the freedom of choice. now, christians...we must exercise it.

SPLINTERING: "Integrity vs. Winning"

yesterday, dr. james dobson wrote an article for the new york times. in it, he explains the outcome of a meeting of christian leaders last week in salt lake city. he also discusses his personal convictions and defends the notion that the christian community is splintering amidst the current presidential election.

below are a few excerpts from the article:

After two hours of deliberation, we voted on a resolution that can be summarized as follows: If neither of the two major political parties nominates an individual who pledges himself or herself to the sanctity of human life, we will join others in voting for a minor-party candidate. Those agreeing with the proposition were invited to stand. The result was almost unanimous.
The other issue discussed at length concerned the advisability of creating a third party if Democrats and Republicans do indeed abandon the sanctity of human life and other traditional family values. Though there was some support for the proposal, no consensus emerged.

Speaking personally, and not for the organization I represent or the other leaders gathered in Salt Lake City, I firmly believe that the selection of a president should begin with a recommitment to traditional moral values and beliefs. Those include the sanctity of human life, the institution of marriage, and other inviolable pro-family principles. Only after that determination is made can the acceptability of a nominee be assessed.

The other approach, which I find problematic, is to choose a candidate according to the likelihood of electoral success or failure. Polls don’t measure right and wrong; voting according to the possibility of winning or losing can lead directly to the compromise of one’s principles. In the present political climate, it could result in the abandonment of cherished beliefs that conservative Christians have promoted and defended for decades. Winning the presidential election is vitally important, but not at the expense of what we hold most dear.

One other clarification is germane, even though unrelated to the meeting in Salt Lake City. The secular news media has been reporting in recent months that the conservative Christian movement is hopelessly fractured and internally antagonistic. The Los Angeles Times reported on Monday, for example, that supporters of traditional family values are rapidly “splintering.” That is not true. The near unanimity in Salt Lake City is evidence of much greater harmony than supposed. Admittedly, differences of opinion exist among us about our choices for president.

okay, bear with me. i had to read, re-read, and ask my spouse to read and re-read this article, to try and figure out what dr. dobson was trying to say. and i think i got it. (for the moment, anyway..)

it sounds as if dr. dobson is agreeing with all the huckabee supporters, christians, and values voters out there. (now hear me out...)

i say it sounds like dr. dobson is agreeing, because this is what he states in the above article. HOWEVER, the area of contention, speculation and suspicion arises, due to the fact, that we have yet to see or hear any action by dr. dobson to support or substantiate what he has stated.

it would appear to be a contradiction between what he says and what he has actually done or not done, thus far. in an effort to give dr. dobson the benefit of the doubt (after all, he did seem to have a clear understanding of fred thompson's shortcomings.) and for the purpose of this post, we will assume he is an unannounced, pro-huckabee supporter.

that aside, i DO believe dr. dobson is addressing the fundamental and core issue in this GOP election. DO YOU VOTE FOR WHO REPRESENTS YOUR VALUES AND BELIEFS?? OR DO YOU VOTE FOR WHO YOU THINK CAN WIN?? plain and simple.

obviously, huckabee supporters believe govenor huckabee fulfills both categories, and is the obvious choice for the social conservative vote.

i believe THIS ISSUE : "integrity vs. the win".....is what is causing a so-call "splintering" in the christian community. dr. dobson denies this is happening amongst the leaders in salt lake city. indeed, there may not be obvious splintering amongst the christian leadership. however, i contend that at the very least, the splintering is occurring amidst the christian constituency.

i believe the christian voter WANTS TO VOTE for a canidate that embodies their values and beliefs. however, the christian leadership and the media are doing their darndest to convince them otherwise. as a result, christians are debating amongst themselves (as are the christian leaders, as mentioned by dr. dobson) and wrestling in their hearts, as to the answer to the fundamental question... integrity or the win??

we are constantly hearing the words, "but can he win?" or "the money!". but really, christians...is it really all about "winning"??? how about the issues of integrity, voting your conscience, the values and principles of a christian...and then trusting God to do the rest?? by NOT doing these...indeed, we may be focused on winning...as dr. dobson stated, at the "expense of what we hold so dear."

it appears christian leaders are 'desperately searching' for a viable canidate. however, in the process, they are finding themselves compromisng on issues, principles and values that are fundamental to the christian. whether it be mormonism, same sex unions or the sanctity of life, they are trying desperately to justify it... for the win.

but friends, is a "win" really worth it at all costs? is it worth compromsing our values and beliefs?? and who is it costing the most?? despite the outcome, will you be able to reconcile your conscience after the november 2008 election?

the story of gideon is a good example of trusting God in a seemingly underdog and adverse situation. despite the odds, gideon went forth in obedience and conviction.. trusting God...and allowing God to get the ultimate glory in the victory.

now, i'm not saying that govenor huckabee is gideon. simply, that we must do our part, and trust God to do the rest. despite the christian leadership, and their unability to commit to a canidate.. WE must. we must reconcile our faith, our values, our beliefs, and we must choose to support the canidate that best represents us.

i believe if christians voted for the canidate that best embodied and represented their values and beliefs. the result would be; a canidate that supported issues such as: the sanctity of life, the insitution of marriage, and other pro-family issues. essentially, it would be a '2 for 1'.

christians, we must realize, WE ARE A VIABLE AND POWERFUL DEMOGRAPHIC. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. we should NOT underestimate the power of the christian conservative vote. we can rally and unite behind a canidate, and elect him to the white house. we've done it before, and we can do it again. but it takes unity, it takes conviction and it takes action.

regarding dr. dobson, i pray God will speak to his heart. the words dr. dobson wrote, speak of a man passionately desiring to maintain his integrity, and not compromise the basic principles of his faith, in the context of this presidential election. may God give dr. dobson the clarity to see, and the boldness to step out and act upon his convictions. i pray, that results in the support of govenor huckabee.

indeed, it would be very sad, if after his impassioned article, it really wasn't about endorsing a canidate that represents his values, above the win.....it just sounded like it.

go forth, christian....pray....act upon your convictions....and trust God to be glorified.

here are a few highlights...

The summer of 2007 has come and gone with one Republican Cinderella fading quickly while another rises rapidly: such is the contrast between Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee. Since various candidates have thrown their hat in the ring for the Republican nomination, the conservative base has been asking: Who is our man? While Giuliani has the greatest charisma and national appeal, his stance on social issues has left conservatives cold. They cannot find the energy to support him. He appears, at best, to be “the one who can stop Hillary.” But this is like voting for a plumber, not a president.

For months, conservatives have been hoping that there is an individual, a hidden savior who will emerge to captivate their hearts.

No sooner has Thompson made his official bid than it has become painfully obvious that he is a horrible speaker, has no new ideas and is not likely to win the Republican nomination.

For example, at the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) conference in July, Thompson presented a speech in a room full of journalists and state legislators. Here was his opportunity to impress an important group of opinion makers. Instead, he appeared ill-prepared, he wore glasses and looked down as he read his speech, made little eye contact and uttered themes that could have been taken from a lecture written twenty years ago. In short, he was bland, lethargic and woefully out of touch. The reaction in the room was a harbinger of the national reaction to come: great hope fading into disillusionment and then sheer indifference.

Yet, as disappointing as is Thompson, there is hope on the horizon for conservatives; there is a dark horse on the march--one whose mane gleams a little brighter every day, and one who, as he gallops forward from the sunny horizon, has a gleam that goes from black to sheer white. The contrast between Thompson and Huckabee could not be greater. When Huckabee spoke at the very same venue, the crowd was mesmerized and moved. He is full of energy and zeal; eager to improve an America he clearly loves.

Mike Huckabee, the former Baptist preacher and two-term govenor of Arkansas, has all of the skills, attributes and credentials conservatives have been looking for. He is an avid and uncompromising proponent of life. His brave, passionate speeches against abortion have been amongst the most stirring of the campaign so far. He opposes same-sex marriage and civil unions; he supports teaching creationism in public schools. He is not packaged, stiff and artificial: he speaks with the depth of conviction of a man who has a spiritual life. He is, in essence, an authentic Christian.

It is no wonder then that as Republicans take stock of their options, Mike Huckabee surges ahead. In August, Newt Gingrich referred to Huckabee “as the most interesting dark horse”; Gingrich predicted that Huckabee will catch fire with Republican primary voters due to his candor and authenticity.

Thus, in the summer of 2007, the Cinderella conservatives have been looking for did not turn out to be Fred Thompson. Instead, the glass slipper best fits the underdog candidate who was already in the race. (emphasis: mine)

You Can Lead a Horse to Water....

well friends, for those that have been following my blog, you know recently i have been corresponding with gary bauer of american values. over the past week, i have posted the back and forth of emails and responses.

although, i don't think mr. bauer has necessarily changed his position, (although, you never know what he might be thinking!) i greatly appreciate his willingness to correspond and dialogue with me, regarding the issues. up to now, i've emailed many other christian leaders, but none have been nearly as accessible or as willing.

friends, we have to remember, mr. bauer is not necessarily 'the enemy'. i believe, in many ways we share a common goal. however, the "way to get there", is where we differ.

i would hope we can aspire to find a way to 'get on the same page'. like the saying goes, "you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make them drink."
let's hope and pray, in our efforts to share govenor mike huckabee and his message, we can lead others to the water...and after seeing and hearing...they will drink.

Gary Bauer Part 3: My Response...

below is my response to gary bauer's last email (10/1/07)... addressing the issues of sanctity of life, supreme court justices, and the GOP nomination.

Dear Mr. Bauer,

Thank you again, for your correspondence.

Yes, I see your point, regarding the issue of abortion and the sanctity of life. You are absolutely right. Indeed, we DO NEED TO BE PRUDENT in our choice for president.

And yes, there are several important issues effecting the Christian family today. The sanctity of human life; definitely, being one of them. However, in an effort to achieve this one goal, we musn’t compromise on broader more far reaching foundational issues.

Essentially, the issue of abortion, is simply a symptom; a manifestation of a larger more foundational problem. It signifies the decay of morals and values. It denotes a lack of understanding and respect for human life. But even more foundationally, it signals a lack of respect and honor for God and what He has given and ordained.

I understand the sense of urgency in regards to the upcoming Supreme Court Justice nominations. I realize the gravity and importance of this opportunity. However, there is no guarantee that with a Republican president, that we will garner the necessary support to nominate a pro-life justice. Or that the justice will necessarily vote in our favor. We hope for that. We pray for that. But with the strong opposition from liberals, we cannot know for certain.

Contrastly, if we elect a president that has a keen understanding of not only the sanctity of life, but also shares the values and beliefs of the Christian. We then have the opportunity to go ‘beyond’ the abortion issue, and essentially effect policy and government in a greater and broader sense.

On September 17, 2007 at the Values Voters Debate, the Christian conservative vote was cast and heard. Govenor Mike Huckabee won with a resounding 63%. Especially significant, was the fact that many delegates had gone to the debate with a predisposition for a candidate that was not in attendance. Yet, after hearing the debate, 100 of the delegates changed their vote, and cast it favor of Govenor Huckabee. Also, a few days later, a second straw poll at the Palmetto Family Council Debate in South Carolina, Govenor Huckabee was also the winner. In addition, Govenor Huckabee is gaining traction and steadily climbing in the polls in conservative caucus states, such as Iowa. It is clearly apparent, that Govenor Huckabee resonates with the Christian conservative, and represents and embodies their values and beliefs.

Unfortunately, neither the Christian leadership nor the media, have embraced Govenor Huckabee, or acknowledged his viability in the GOP presidential race. This is puzzling and troubling. I'm not quite sure the reason, apart from the fundraising and financial issues. However, these issues could be remedied with an endorsement or positive support for Govenor Huckabee. The Christian community would then have the opportunity to unify and rally behind a candidate, that, in fact, truly represents our values and issues.

Recently, I read this quote. I think it speaks poignantly to the issue:

One conservative leader once wisely told me this:
“We have to be faithful to God, to the principles that guide us,
and to our supporters who are looking to us for leadership.
We should be reminded of the oft repeated truth that
God has not called us to be successful;
he has called us to be faithful.”
That has guided me in everything I do politically.”

With a candidate like Mike Huckabee, we KNOW what we are getting. He is committed and consistent on the issues. He is a candidate Christians can identify with, and stand behind. I believe the schism within the Christian community is primarily a result of candidates that do NOT represent our values, being pushed upon the Christian community, due to an agenda by Christian leaders. This creates a dilemma for the Christian voter. We cannot reconcile voting for a candidate that does not share our values and beliefs. Yet, we are being encouraged to do so by Christian leadership. This creates frustration and an integrity issue for the Christian. We desire to be true to ourselves and faithful in our responsibilities in voting. But in a greater way, we feel called and desire to be true and faithful to God and our convictions.

Please don’t ask the Christian voter to compromise their integrity, for ‘one win’. Albeit, a valid one. Instead, let us support and choose a candidate that can represent the Christian community holistically. Let us choose a candidate that Christians can truly rally behind. Let us choose a candidate that can lead our nation back towards the values and principles of God. Let us be faithful…and trust God to make it successful.

below is my response to gary bauer's september 28, 2007 email.

sadly, i believe mr. bauer's opinions, may very well reflect that of many christian leaders in washington. similarly, perhaps, this letter should be addressed to those leaders, as well.

Dear Mr. Bauer,

Thank you for your response. I appreciate you taking the time to discuss the issues.

However, I was a bit concerned about your following comments:

"I believe any of the candidates, except Giuliani, would be preferable to Hillary Clinton."
Isn't the fact that Mitt Romney is a mormon, which is considered a cult, fly in the face of what Christianity stands for? Supporting or endorsing a mormon presidential canidate doesn't seem to align with a Christian's values and beliefs.

All things being equal in terms of capacity and competence, wouldn't it be better to have a president that has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and shares the values and beliefs of the Christian that is voting for him?

"I also think, after hours of private conversations, that all the candidates have flaws, but I will not discuss them publicly."
Yes, everyone has flaws. "There is none righteous, no not one." But in our lack of perfection, in our sinful state, it only reinforces how we NEED GOD in a greater way. For those that do not have or know God personally, how will they reconcile and work out the flaws that are inherently in them? And how will that reflect in the way they live and govern our nation?

"I also think we should all pray a lot before we suggest that any candidate is the candidate Jesus wants. When our Savior returns, there won’t be any elections because he is the King of Kings!"
Amen. When Jesus returns HE WILL BE KING.

Yet, in the meantime, I feel we need to be good stewards of what God has given us. We must exercise wisdom, and make prudent, integritous decisions regarding our choices in authority and government.

Of course, no one can definitively say, "this is the canidate Jesus wants". However, based on what we 'see' and 'know' regarding the canidates. We need only look at what they believe, what they value, what they've done in their lives and careers. We can then make an assessment of who best represents the values of Jesus.

In this case, the dial points directly to Govenor Huckabee. There is no way to take all the top tier canidates, weigh them on the scale of the Christian voter, and NOT choose Govenor Huckabee. He is the only true conservative consistent Christian canidate.

Mr. Bauer, I realize you may think Christian voters to be naive in their approach to politics and this election. We assume that voting in our integrity, for the canidate that best embodies and represents our values and beliefs, to be the natural and right thing to do.

On the other hand, many politicians and Washington insiders, may think otherwise. It may appear too simplistic. But if all Christian leaders encouraged Christians to vote their conscience, to vote for the canidate who best represented and embodied their beliefs. We would have a president that truly represents the Christian vote and it would be unified and powerful.

To play the Washington political game, in hopes of winning on a few issues here and there, seems to be diluting and compromising the main message and mission. Yes, there is a political game going on. But do we, as Christians, with God on our side...have to play along??

it was in response to an article in 'one news now', in which mr. bauer requested second tier GOP presidential hopefuls to pull out of the presidential race. (interesting side note: gary bauer ran for the republican presidential nomination in 1999.)

Dear Mr. Bauer,

I am writing this letter in response to an article from One News Now. In the article, you call for some of the presidential hopefuls in the GOP to pull out of the presidential bid.

Yes, the field is a bit crowded. And yes, there are many canidates that are diluting the conservative Christian vote. However, contrary to what the media is reporting, the canidates that are diluting the vote, are the top tier canidates that DO NOT REPRESENT the Christian conservative vote! They do not represent the values of the Christian voter nor are they proven in executive leadership.

Frankly, I'm a bit puzzled. As a Christian mother of 2 boys, I remember you from years ago. I remember when you and Dr. Dobson would speak of your work in Washington D.C. on behalf of Christians and the family. It seems, somehow things have changed. The current endorsements or preference given by Christian leaders, regarding canidates, do NOT REFLECT the values of the Christian. It is very disappointing.

I've always been apathetic about politics and the political process. I never cared a whit about any of it. That is, until I learned about Govenor Mike Huckabee. His competence as a govenor, his commitment to his faith, his ability to articulate and his integrity and wit. These are just a few reasons why Govenor Huckabee has transformed this stay at home mom, into a grass roots activitst.

Why, Mr. Bauer, are Christian leaders NOT getting behind Govenor Huckabee? Why are they not encouraging the Christian social conservative voter to support him? It is obvious he represents and embodies the values of the Christian voter. Why won't any Christian leaders stand on his behalf?

"Because he can't beat Hillary??". That is the reason I hear so often. Frankly, Govenor Huckabee is the only canidate that can stand toe-to-toe with Hillary, and have any chance of coming out with his life. Not only has he governed a state, unlike all the senator in the race. But he has the verbal skills and quick wit to engage her and still come out ahead a few points. She is a formidable opponent, and it sounds like many, yourself included, are afraid of her occupation of the White House. SO ARE WE, Mr. Bauer...so are we!!!

That's why we need somebody like Govenor Huckabee. He's not the 'good 'ol boy', trying to make it on image alone. Nor is he the 'war veteran', trying to capitalize on his war record. Nor the snazzy 'city boy', trying to parlay the 9/11 tragedy. He is simply a man qualified for the job, committed to God, and able to draw even the cynical Democrat onto his side.

So Huckabee, on paper, is undeniably the man for the job. Yet, the lack of support and seeming opposition from the Christian leaders is hamstringing his efforts.

I simply don't understand. Maybe it's part of the 'political game'? Yet, somehow I remember years ago, you and Dr. Dobson speaking about the goals of what you were embarking upon in Washington. It was about "values", "God", "family" and the "representation of the Christian and family in Washington". What happened, Mr. Bauer?? I don't understand.

At the end of the article in One News Now, you stated, Christians need to remember, "Jesus is not running in the Republican primaries." Indeed, you are right. He is not. But I can't help but think, if He were here voting..."What Would Jesus Do?". And that, Mr. Bauer, is why I support Govenor Mike Huckabee for President.

RESPONSE: FROM GARY BAUER 9/28/07

Thank you for writing me. I have not asked Mike Huckabee to drop out of the race, nor would I ever do so. What I have said is that after another six or seven weeks, if lower tier candidates don’t drop out of the race, we will end up with Rudy Giuliani as the GOP nominee and Hillary as President.

Mrs. T, many Christian leaders are supporting Mike Huckabee, but others have gone with other candidates. I probably won’t endorse anyone, because I have to work with them all on behalf of our pro-life, pro-family movement. As a matter of fact, I just spent an hour with Huckabee, and next week I will be sitting down privately with other candidates.

I believe any of the candidates, except Giuliani, would be preferable to Hillary Clinton. I also think, after hours of private conversations, that all the candidates have flaws, but I will not discuss them publicly.

I also think we should all pray a lot before we suggest that any candidate is the candidate Jesus wants. When our Savior returns, there won’t be any elections because he is the King of Kings!

well, i'll let you draw your own conclusions regarding the above. i'm not quite sure what to make of it, apart from the fact that 'politics' seems alive and well.
yet, i do agree with mr. bauer, regarding the need to have some of the lower tier canidates bow out of the GOP race.

friends, please do what you can to help turn the tide and perspective of those around you. it seems we are losing our bearings and values in an effort to play the political game.

let's get back to basics. let's look at what is front of us. let's look at the facts not the politics. qualified, experienced, committed christian, consistent, communicator, integritous....this is mike huckabee.

as mr. bauer suggests, let's pray long and hard and ask God..."What would Jesus do?"...and then....let's do it.

ChristiaNet.com, the world's largest Christian portal with twelve million monthly page loads, recently asked, "Would you elect a Mormon for president?" President of ChristiaNet, Bill Cooper, responds, "An overwhelming majority of Christians have spoken on the issue, they won't vote for a Mormon."

Out of 2,000 Christians surveyed, 59% claimed they would not vote to elect a Mormon for president. Most comments resulted from the belief that Mormonism is a cult, "The church of Mormonism is a cult and I would never vote for a cult leader." Most in this category also felt that Mormons were not Christians, "A Mormon is not a Christian, and they don't follow the Bible like Christians do." In fact, almost all responses in this category suggested that a Mormon's belief in Christ and God were contrary to a Christian's belief. the above article comes on the heels of a day that CBN's david brody http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/blogs/BrodyFile/ devoted 7 blog entries (somewhat of a record, from what i've seen up to now) to mitt romney and his position on various issues.

this just doesn't seem balanced. for example, last week when govenor huckabee overwhelmingly won the values voter straw poll... only a minimal and delayed acknowledgement of the results were reported. there is something wrong here. isn't CBN a christian broadcasting network? i wrote a letter to mr. brody, asking for equity and fairness in reporting.

friends, i am NOT a letter writer, and i don't particularly enjoy it, either. but recently, i find myself writing letters to media outlets and leaders daily. i feel ill equipped for the task. yet, i feel compelled and convicted to do something. i know it's hard to go outside one's comfort zone (believe me, i know!), but we as a group, MUST TAKE ACTION and do something. we must step out of our comfort zones and act. the media (including the christian media) is not going to 'give us any freebies'...we're gonna have to work for it.

govenor huckabee is probably exhausted on the campaign trail. he is constantly traveling, speaking and getting minimal rest. yet, he is doing his level best to get his message out, and doing his part (the hard part!). we, as christians, and supporters of mike huckabee, must do our part as well.

whether that means giving monetarily, letter writing, phone calling, talking to friends and family, or praying for him. govenor huckabee needs us to be the 'hands and feet' of his campaign. he's only one man, with a limited budget and limited staffing. yet, with a powerful message and vision.

as i mentioned in an earlier post, one upside to this 'grass roots' thing, is that we get to be involved and see the direct impact of our efforts. we get to be part of the team. we get to 'stand up and be counted', for a cause that will have lasting effects upon our families and our nation. this is important stuff, and we get to be a part of it.

CHRISTIAN.. COMPETENT.. CONSISTENT.. COMMUNICATOR... GOVENOR MIKE HUCKABEE.

this is something we haven't seen in the world of politics in a long time (if ever!). this is what is causing a grass roots movement amongst formerly apathetic christians, disullusioned republicans, unsatisfied democrats and limbo independents alike. this is something special ...THIS IS GOVENOR MIKE HUCKABEE.

CHRISTIAN
mike huckabee is unapologetically a christian. he is pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, pro-creationism...pro-God.

mike huckabee is a man that has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

he is a man that is not hesitant to share his views and his faith publicly (even in the heat of a cnn debate!). he makes no apologies for his faith. neither is he "mad at anyone" about it, either. he openly talks about it, he believes it...he lives it.

as a christian, the prospect of having a president that knows God personally, is submitted to Him and His word, and actively seeks Him.. is, indeed, an answer to prayer. mike huckabee is a man that understands the hearts, minds and challenges of the christian. mike huckabee is, indeed, a man that comes "from us"...not "to us" on the issues of God and faith.

COMPETENT
mike huckabee is competent.

he is not a man running for office purely and solely based on the merits of his faith alone. yes, he is a christian, and for this we are excited. but no, it doesn't stop there... in addition to that...HE IS COMPETENT as a leader.

he has the capacity and the skills to do the job. he is proven. he has governed. he has overseen. he has lead. it's not only what he 'can do'...it is what he HAS DONE.

he is a christian AND he is competent... a rare gem, indeed. for this reason, christians need to stop and take notice.

CONSISTENT
mike huckabee is consistent.

webster's definition of the word consistent: holding to the same principles or practice. govenor huckabee is 'today'....what he was 'yesterday'. he is consistent on issues, on values, on faith. what you see is what you get. his record speaks for itself.

there is a great need for consistency within our country, our government, and our leaders. we need to know what to expect from our leaders. we need to have confidence that they are commited to their positions and what they say. we need to feel equally confident that what they say...they will, indeed, do.

COMMUNICATOR
mike huckabee is an eloquent and articulate communicator.

govenor huckabee has the unique gift and ability to connect with people and audiences. he has the ability to speak to the issues, as well as to the hearts of the audience. his words give hope, inspiration and direction.

govenor huckabee is planning a VERTICAL DAY on september 24, 2007, monday. it will be a 24 hour event, with exciting interaction, information, and discussion with govenor mike huckabee. i think one of the most exciting things about this grass roots thing.. is that we can directly see our impact and we can be personally involved with the govenor and his efforts. you really feel like a "part of the process, a part of the team. "

Everywhere I go on the campaign trail, I meet voters with a real thirst for a healthy discussion of the issues. Ultimately, people don't care whether an issue comes from the left or the right. this excerpt is govenor mike huckabee commenting regarding republicans and evangelical christian leaders.

“If Republicans in this election vote in such a way as to say a candidate’s personal life and personal conduct in office doesn’t matter,” said Huckabee, “then a lot of Christian evangelical leaders owe Bill Clinton a public apology.”

“I’m specifically referencing Christian evangelical leaders who were the most vocal in saying back during the Clinton era that personal behavior, personal responsibility and character were the key factors in a president’s criteria.”

He accused those leaders of selling out to the Republican Party.‘‘That’s my challenge to Christian leaders — either be consistent, be Christian leaders or just say I’m a political boss and it’s really about the power,’’ he said.

“What’s at stake,” Huckabee said, “is the credibility of religious conservatives.”‘‘Christian leaders need to be Christian leaders, not Republican leaders,’’ he said.

recently, i was listening to a popular christian radio station. i was appalled to hear the comments of a well respected evangelical pastor regarding fred thompson, and also his opinion regarding what he felt were the qualifications for a canidate for the president of the united states.

i don't have the transcript, so i don't have his words vertabum. but essentially, in my own words, this is what he said...

'fred thompson? well, fred is a straight shooter, a good guy. people ask about a 'christian president'. i don't think a president needs to be a christian. he can be a nominal christian. as long as the canidate has a good moral base, to be able to make good decisions.

presidents in the past weren't particularly strong christians, and they did allright. the only openly christian president, was jimmy carter. he was labeled the 'born-again canidate'. and he didn't do very well as president. now, if you're looking for a pastor...then you want him to be a christian. but the president? it's not necessary.

i hate discussing politics, it's one of my least favorite subjects.'

gee wiz, i can see why! his comments could be so easily miscontrued and misapplied by the listening audience...resulting in potential backlash (not to mention letters and emails) directed at him.

okay, i see what this pastor is trying to say... he'd rather have a competent 'nominal christian' than an 'incompetent christian' president. point taken. BUT....how about if the canidate is a CHRISTIAN AND COMPETENT?? (i realize based on history, that sounds somewhat like a contradiction, but...) wouldn't that be a homerun for the christian community and the nation?

that's why, we as christians, are so excited about mike huckabee. up to now, there has been no competent christian canidate to choose from. nobody that had a solid christian foundation, yet could still efficiently and effectively run a government, and could communicate with those on the other side of the aisle. until now....mike huckabee is causing a grass roots movement amongst christians. causing the 'up to now apathetics' (myself included) to get up off the couch and fight and vocalize for his canidacy.

i feel the remarks of this pastor were somewhat irresponsible. as a christian leader, i would think he would be extremely careful regarding his comments. christian leaders are so careful not to endorse any canidates and not get involved in anything political. yet, to make a general comment like the above, is to me, very disappointing. i don't mean to single out this pastor in particular. but it does seem to be symptomatic and indicative of what's going on within the evangelical church and with it's leaders.

essentially, it says to christians, "you don't have to look at their spiritual or personal life. it doesn't matter. as long as they're qualified on paper." but taking that at face value...isn't that a bit misleading, and potentially in the wrong direction? it's as govenor huckabee mentioned above regarding clinton. so much of what is currently happening in our nation has to do with drawing the lines of morality and values. and the values of america are not on the rise. essentially, doesn't one's personal values dictate how one will run his own personal life and in turn how one will make moral decisions effecting the nation?

when he mentions that 'as long as they have good morals to make good decisions'. well, for those that are non-christians or 'nominal christians'....what do you think shapes their morals, values and beliefs?? just 'being a good person'???? that's so subjective. wouldn't it be BETTER to have a leader that is submitted to God, has his values based on the bible?? and taking that solid foundation then integrating it with the skills required for president. combining all of this, to create a well rounded leader of our nation??

my 14 year old son, heard the pastors comments and said this, "gee, in the bible, they had good kings and bad kings. under the bad kings' leadership, it caused corruption and decline of the people's relationships with God. and the country often declined. but under the good kings there was renewal, rebuilding, a focus back onto God... spiritual health...blessings. isn't that what we want for america? wouldn't it be better to have a good king leading our country, too?"

boy, isn't that kid great? it seems so basic, so simple. why are people getting so lost in all of this?? critics might say, "you're being so naive to believe we can just vote for the man that best represents our christian values and beliefs, and believe that he can win. this is politics, you know!".

indeed, it is politics. and that's the sad part. as govenor huckabee pointed out above. many of the christian conservatives are getting lured into being "political"..."republican"...and might be very well losing their roots of 'christian conservative' in the process.

that's why, i'm not particuarly excited about the upcoming christian or 'values based' debates. it seems as if the christian leaders are looking through different colored glasses...political glasses. i'm honestly not sure what they'll come up with..and frankly am a bit scared to find out. will they see the truth? or will they opt for the 'political path'?? that remains to be seen.

maybe it's time for christians to take a step back. not only to assess the field of canidates running for the presidency...but to take a good hard look at the christian leaders that are endorsing and not endorsing the canidates.

maybe we can look to these christian leaders as pastors....but like the pastor eluded to above...not anything beyond that. that would be so sad. we depend upon our christian leaders to guide us with wisdom and discernment. unfortunately, i hope and pray 'politics' and 'the republican way' may not become a barrier.

i hope this is not taken wrongly. i don't mean to be harsh. yet, i feel it is a point that deserves addressing. i hope and pray christian leaders will wake up from the stupor of 'political agendas' and 'popular choice'. i pray they will see the truth before them...and will be able to step up and out with conviction.

after all, would you rather be living in a kingdom under a 'good king'... or a 'nominal king'...or a 'bad king'??? take a quick review of 2 chronicles..and i think the choice will be easy.

i'm going to start with a disclaimer. the following may be perceived as harsh but i feel this needs to be addressed. (here goes nothin)...

the above quote by Wildmon is exactly the reason why our country is such a mess, and one of the reasons why the evangelical christian community has no leverage or impact on government or society.

the leaders of the christian community... if they don't understand, and can't act on their convictions. if they don't set an example. what do you expect the rest of the christian community to do? the community follows the same rules of compromise. we go down the road a ways... post election... and find christians complaining that our government isn't sensitive to our issues and that our nation is in the midst of moral decay. but how did we get there???

my 14 year old son read the quote by wildmon and replied,

it's like a size 42R men's suit. evangelical leaders are trying so hard to get a size 46L canidate to squeeze into and fit into a 42R. it may look like it fits for few minutes in the soft lighting of the store and with the salesperson's pitch...but inevitably, the man has to exhale. the man has to drop his arms that have been scrunched into the sleeves. the man has to try and walk and move in that suit. the suit begins to rip at the seams and fall apart. he just can't do it. it just doesn't fit. you can't make it fit. why not just get a 42R man, to wear the 42R suit?? is this rocket science?

i am so disappointed in the lack of discernment and irresponsibility of these christian leaders. if they don't have eyes to see....if they can't reconcile their values...if they can't act on their convictions.....we can't expect the sheep in the community to do otherwise. hence, the pattern begins, and the perpetuation of this compromising continues. as a result, the nation continues in it's liberal ways. taking us further and further away from our roots in the christian faith.

how we need christians and christian leaders to quit playing the 'political game'. we need to identify the canidate that best reflects our judeo-christian beliefs and support and endorse that canidate. clearly, the top canidate that meets that cirteria within the GOP, is mike huckabee. all other canidates are either blatantly opposed to traditional christian values, or they are border-line-with an inconsistent history-or the flip flopping issue. just look at the facts.

like i said before...this isn't rocket science.

as much as i continue to pray for christian leaders to step up. if they can't see it. if they can't speak out....we, as christians, must do it ourselves. we must become grass roots oriented, and inform and encourage fellow christians to 'look beyond the label', 'to search for fruit', 'to evaluate what shapes our values and beliefs', 'to get off the bench and get ready to play', 'to get the word out', 'to arm ourselves for battle'.... to get involved....to pray.

so many questions....so many things that just don't make sense...

what is going on in our country?...in our world? why is our nation and it's values degrading at such an alarming rate? what's happening to the american family? what is happening to our youth? why so much violence? how can the value of human life become so disposable? why is the media so liberal? how can people blow themselves up and kill and attack innocent people? the world is spinning out of control.....why? why?? why???

"for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rules of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." ephesians 6:12

it's a battle, folks. and we're right smack in the middle of it. we all know that we are living in the end times. the climate of our world and the things going on within it, confirms this. like it or not.... we are in a battle.

whether it be international and foreign issues, the sanctity of human life, the state of marriage and the family, the prevelance of violence within our society, or even the canidacy for the presidency....it's all about power and control. who wants it...who has it....and what they're gonna do to get it and keep it.

it's clear that our current world is succumbing to the power of the enemy. call it satan, demons, evil, the dark side..whatever. but God has allowed satan to rule the world for a time. and the evidence of his power and control is clearly rampant throughout the world.

HOWEVER....the good news is.... we as christians, have been equipped with the armor of God. we have the Holy Spirit. we have God going before us and with us. we have His promise that 'He will never leave us or forsake us'. we have the hope and comfort of knowing that God will have the ultimate victory. and also, we as christians...HAVE A CHOICE.

we are given the 'gift of free will' and choice. in the same way we can choose to accept Jesus and have a personal relationship with Him. we also have the choice as to how we will live out and walk our lives with Him.

what does that mean? it means....how do we as christians live out our faith?? is it helping someone in need? is it being obedient to God's Word? is it being dilligent, truthful? is it being a faithful husband, wife or parent? the list can go on and on...and yes, these are all wonderful manifestations of living out one's faith in obedience to God. however, i think as christians, we may be missing a "big one". one that seems to slip through the cracks and often gets avoided and glossed over. an area in whch not many christians dare tread.... politics and government.

just the word "politics" is enough to send shivers and illicit shudders amongst the average christian. as christians, we just 'don't go there'. and frankly, i never did before either. and you know what? i have no idea why. except that it just seemed somehow irrelevant or maybe even 'unspiritual'??

i don't think until more recently, did i ever see the connection between politics, government and our spiritual lives. maybe the media has done too good of a job selling the 'separation of church and state' story to all of us. or maybe i was just too apathetic and comfortable in my little christian world to bother or even notice.

i think for many of us, the realities of the world and what's going on it it...don't penetrate our insulated lives. whether it be terrorism or the sanctity of human life. we hear about it, we read about it..but until it touches us personally...not many of us really understand or feel a need to get involved.

there is no denying, and we can all clearly see... the shift in our world. it is no longer in "God we trust" it is no longer 'one nation under God'. many people are working hard to change that. in fact, many of the rights of christians have been challenged and double standards in relation to other religions applied. for example, in public schools, christians are prohibited from meeting for an after school bible study. in contrast, one hour a day in the middle of the school day is allocated for muslims to have prayer time. teacher supervision and speakers are provided for these students. what's wrong with this picture? overcompensation...double standards. what are the rights of the christian?

this is just one small example. so what are we as christians going to do about it?

pray? YES! absolutely!!! but what else? complain? get discouraged? give up? NO!!!

in nehemiah, God's people were trying to rebuild the wall. they experienced opposition. so what did they do?

"so it was, from that time on, that half of my servants worked at construction, while the other half held the spears, shields, the bows, and the armor; and the leaders were behind all the house of judah.

those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction and with the other held a weapon. every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built. and the one who sounded the trumpet was beside me.

then i said to the nobles, the rules and the rest of the people, 'the work is great and extensive, and we are separated far from one another on the wall.

whenever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. our God will fight for us." nehemiah 4: 16-18

God's people armed themselves and set a watch. God's people understood their roles and worked dilligently. God's people rallied together, to call upon the Lord. God's people successfully rebuilt the wall.

one thing to understand, dear christian...this is not about politics, or hillary or the republican party. this is a spiritual battle. and we as christians, must CHOOSE to get involved in the rebuilding of the wall. we need to pray...YES, ABSOLUTELY! but we also MUST ACT. God's people prayed..but they also 'set a watch' and worked dilligently. we MUST PARTICIPATE and take practical steps in the rebuilding of the wall.

"...do not be afraid of them. remember the Lord great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses." nehemiah 4:14b

christians, this is not just about 'us'. it is about our children, our families...our nation.

truthfully, we can't expect things to just 'go our christian way'. the enemy is working hard to keep control, and the trend towards a God-less nation is successfully gaining momentum.

we need a leader that will help stem the tide. we need a leader, a modern-day-nehemiah to stand in the gap and help lead, direct, rally and rebuild our nation. i truly believe mike huckabee is that man. he has received so much opposition on his path to the presidency thus far, and this will no doubt continue. the enemy does not want the leader of our nation to be a devout christian. a man dedicated to the principles of God and the Bible. this would alter his plan entirely. hence, we can expect fierce opposition to ensue.

mike huckabee clearly represents a shift towards God. now that is not something satan or the world will welcome or readily embrace. on the contrary, it's not going to be easy. it will be a fierce battle. so the questions are...what are we as christians going to do to help change that? what are going to do to help shift the tide? what are we going to do???

it's time christians...we need to rebuild the wall in our nation. we need to work dilligently and get involved , we need to arm ourselves and set a watch...we need to rally together and call upon the Lord. we need to commit to this endeavor.

after all, if we as christians don't do it....who will?

i have been so impressed by an article in the july/august issue of "new man magazine".

i encourage you to read it. the article is fantastic. it is well written, and the message is clear. but that's not what impressed me the most. what impressed me the most was that authors: stephen strang, thomas harrington and anthony bonna.. all took a stand. these men stepped out (even before the ames breakthrough) to speak out on behalf of what they believed to be the christian alternative for the presidential canidacy...mike huckabee.

in the current environment, with restrictictions being placed upon christians, and christian organizations..it is so refreshing to see somebody STEP OUT. to see somebody speak forth their convictions, inform and challenge the christian community...and not in a half hearted manner, but with gusto...with conviction. kudos to these men!

nowadays, just by looking...you might think our country was going through a christian revival of sorts. after all, books like, "the purpose driven life", "left behind" were both best sellers. cross stickers and fish on the backs of cars and windows seem to be ever increasing. many christian musicians are gaining popularity and are crossing over to the secular genre. celebrities and high profile people are talking about "God" and "blessings" and "prayer".

so what gives? if, in fact, christianity is at an all time high...why is our country at an "all time low"??

there are probably several reasons. but one reason i believe stands out, is the lack of fruit in people's lives.

so "why is fruit lacking?"....

"abide in Me, and I in you. as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. he who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." john 15:4-5

without Jesus and the Holy Spirit....we are nothing and can do nothing. we can't "make our own fruit"...only by abiding in God, ('making our home with God') can we produce fruit. no matter how much an apple tree want to produce an apple...if it's not connected to the tree....it won't produce a single piece of fruit.

i'm not questioning anybody's salvation, or the authenticity of their faith in God. but to differentiate and discern between what people "say" .... we must see what they "do". there must be consistencies. we must look for FRUIT. anybody and everybody can claim christianity and faith in God. in fact, currently...it's kinda hip! but we're not looking for a fad...we're looking for authenticity.

a tree can claim to be an apple tree. but until you see an actual apple come forth...it could be a cactus, for all you know.

many people can profess their faith in God, they can use the spiritual words and phrases ....BUT WHERE'S THE FRUIT?? are they abiding in God?

"you will know them by their fruits. do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? even so, every good tree bears good fruit but a bad tree bears bad fruit . therefore, by their fruits you will know them." matthew 7:17, 20

we must be cautious, christians...there are many canidates in the presidential race, who are trying to associate themselves with 'God' and the 'religious right'. we must be discerning. we must look for fruit and consistencies in their lives...not just a convenient sound byte or endorsement.

in mike huckabee...i see fruit. in mike huckabee.. i'm told he's an apple tree...and i see apples.

this is significant. we need a leader that is PROVEN. we need to know there is a history of fruit in his personal life and career. we don't want to be promised an apple tree..only to find out later...it only produces lemons.

bear in mind, having the benefit of a fruitful abiding leader....we have a much better chance for a 'fruitful abiding nation'. maybe giving our country a chance to truly experience spiritual renewal and revival!

indulge me for a moment....

how do we elect a president?

looking at it, it seems simple, right? we have republican and democratic primaries. we select one canidate to represent each party. we have a general election between the two. they tally the votes and voila! we get ourselves a new president. the balloons drop, and let the inaguration party begin!

so who determines who our next president will be? "the american people, of course!", you say. so how do the american people decide who they want for president? "by voting for the canidate who best represents their values and beliefs!."

so what shapes the values and beliefs of the average american? " the media, tv, news, family, friends, leaders in the community, letterman, oprah..celebrities...pop culture."

not sure if it's the 'chicken and the egg' thing...but....

if, in fact, this is true...and what we see in media, families and pop culture reflects the values of the average american....we're in big trouble, folks.

have you watched tv lately? or watched a popular new movie? or followed the life of an american celebrity?? scary, very scary.

so how are christians different? how do WE determine our values and beliefs? how do WE know which canidate best represents our values and beliefs?

WE MEASURE THEM UP AGAINST THE BIBLE. we look for someone who is consistent with the Bible. a person who lives out those principles bearing fruit in their lives. We pray.

it is a given, that the canidate needs to be qualified for the job... their abilities, experience, expertise, capacity..but beyond that..

are we as christians, stopping to really LOOK at the canidate from a christian perspective? are we LOOKING for spiritual consistencies....are we LOOKING for fruit in their lives?? are we LOOKING to see if they walk the talk? are we LOOKING for integrity and character? are we measuring the canidate based on these parameters?

are our values and beliefs being shaped by the world? or by the Word of God?

it's so easy to fall prey to the world, media and pop culture. the power and lure of the world, media, and celebrity.. is not to be underestimated.

we all know, in our christian walk..if we don't proactively seek God... if we don't proactively choose God...we can easily be swept away into the world with all it's trappings. unless we consciously do so...unless we exercise our will to choose God...and get in His Word...we can easily lose our moral compass and find ourselves drifting with the tide.

the puzzling thing to me is....if we as christians, are doing the above....if we are seeking the Lord, if we are measuring the canidates against the Word of God, if we are voting our conscience...why isn't mike huckabee a slam dunk? why is there any debate on who the christian choice should be?

it's simple math: christian godly man bearing fruit + conviction to christian values + proven track record in executive leadership + ability to unify and communicate = MIKE HUCKABEE. nothing fancy...it's simple.

christians, stop a moment and take stock... seek the Lord, get in the Word, pray. ask yourself, "what shapes my values and beliefs?"....then look at the canidates...and see if the answer to your equation, turns out to be the same as mine.

Looking Beyond the Label...

does this scene sound familiar?

relaxing with family and friends at their 15 acre summer home...replete with yacht, horses and celebrity friends. a family portrait with 3 generations of family, including 15 grandchildren and possible dog. family members are posing for a picture, dressed in color coordinated outfits (or sometimes even matching) lined up in 3-4 rows in front of the family compound on a patch of sprawling green grass (or maybe the beach, just to shake things up a bit).

i don't write this to be facetious, but to make a point. aren't we used to seeing our president, and presidential canidates (especially more recently) in a very affluent, glamorous, 'almost untouchable' lifestyle? have we come to expect that..and maybe even kind of 'prefer it'??

i realize as a culture, we've been somewhat programmed. .. ingrained in our minds, are the black and white photos and newsreels. pictures of a first family relaxing and frolicking on their yacht... the glamorous dinners the beautiful people, the clothes, the celebrities.

we're used to seeing our presidential hopeful living the 'lifestyle's of the rich and famous' . we're used to seeing them rubbing elbows with celebrities, attending premieres of movies (documentaries on 'global issues' only, of course... unless the celebrity in the movie happens to be a 'personal friend'), and throwing out the first pitch at a major league baseball game. ..they're inaccessible, untouchable...they're a celebrity.

i often wonder, with the way the world changing so quickly...and with the influence of pop culture and the media....has the presidential election become a "virtual popularity contest of the rich and famous?" a "it's who you know, and who -your -friends are race?" it seems as if it's become like the days of high school. people are saying, "i wanna be friends with the popular high school quarterback and cheerleader. i wanna be associated with them because they're cute and cool."

problem is folks....we're not in high school anymore! this is the real world. and this is not a mere high school popularity contest...this is the presidential election at hand.

we need to go back to what the presidential election should be based upon... not personal wealth, celebrity friends, or the big house on the hill. the choosing of the president of the united states needs to be based on the credentials of the canidate, their values, their track record, their ability to communicate, their qualities of leadership, their conviction and commitment to their message..their qualifications for the job...and most importantly, "are they submitted to God?".

it is so important with the presidential 2008 election pending, that we as christians, MUST EDUCATE OURSELVES. we MUST take the time to research, read and pray regarding this upcoming election. we MUST inform ourselves about the canidates. we MUST ask God what He would have us to do. What is our role?

it's not like buying a bottle of ketchup at the grocery store. we can't just buy the one 'everybody buys-because it's the one-we've always bought', or 'it's expensive so it must be good,' no! times have changed. who knows what's in that bottle of ketchup today? it's time to check out the brand, the ingredients, the price, the value...what are you getting for the $2.79?? is it worth it? is there something better out there?? we need to be educated shoppers...educated voters.

the good news is, "YES!", THERE IS SOMETHING BETTER OUT THERE! "YES!", WE DO HAVE OPTIONS!

GOVENOR MIKE HUCKABEE. he embodies the values of the christian. he is qualified and experienced. he can articulate and communicate. he can unify and galvanize. he is committed to representing and serving the american citizen. he truly is the answer to christians' prayers.

let's not buy into the stereotype. let's not just buy the bottle because it has the coolest packaging or the most commercials and billboards. let's take the time to "read the label"....let's find out "what's in the bottle". after all, in the end, when we go to eat those french fries with a big dollop of ketchup...and find it tastes horrible...it'll be too late....we already bought it, and now we've gotta eat it.

come christians, let us look beyond the label....and choose wisely.....
